The Tollgate has a lonely, somewhat sad atmosphere going for it. I can not rate the food as I haven't eaten there, but I believe the bistro was closed, not that I saw one. Also, I can't say I saw any food advertisements while I was having a drink, chat, and slap that would convince me to return for a meal. It seems to be a typical pub, more pokies than patrons. Credit where it is due. The Tollgate is very clean. The staff are doing what they are paid for, keeping the place super clean, along with occasionally asking if you want a drink in order to keep one from thinking they are getting something for nothing while they put their hard earned cash into some very money hungry machine. Service isn't with much of a smile, but I don't blame the staff. The place is a little dreary. I can say I was not at all delighted. So after I threw away some money, enjoyed a not so complimentary drink and a chat, I made my way to the carpark to be asked if I had a spare cigarette by a couple of intoxicated people, I politely said no, but they proceeded to ask me if did Methamphetamine? It was only once I said no, while entering the car that they realised I was going to be taking off with the car they were using as an...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve struggled to write this review, as Iād prefer to stay positive, but certain issues need to be addressed.
I have been a regular at this establishment for over 20 years, yet in the past year, there has been a clear and concerning shift. The top management, specifically the licensee and primary manager, have been enforcing unreasonable demands and displaying clear bias towards different patrons. Unfortunately, this behavior has resulted in locals being pushed away in droves, creating an environment that feels unwelcoming and, frankly, hostile.
The licensee frequently visits and shows clear favoritism, which is disheartening. For those considering visiting for convenience, Iād caution you to be aware of the managementās approach, which can sometimes feel like bullying.
Iād like to extend my apologies to the chef, whose food is good pub food, as well as to the friendly staff members who make a genuine effort to create a welcoming atmosphere.
I believe itās important to let others know that there are many other pubs in Parramatta where patrons are treated respectfully. I suggest you look else...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBeen using this as the 'regular' for about 15 months. The food is well priced (especially for Parramatta), have not had any issues with meals being under or over cooked, no flavour / taste problems. Quite happy to keep going back. Seating here takes about 150-200 people. The daily special here has a good meal for $8-$10 as long as you don't change anything.
Their website was recently re-done, this is much better than it was.
If you're so inclined, they have the lingerie waitresses there Wed - Fri afternoons.
Beer prices are OK, getting anything decent on tap means Coopers.:D - it's not all bad. Amongst the rest of the range is Carlton, Great Northern, VB.
It has a pool table, inside & outside seating. Outside seating would roughly take 120 people, some under cover. Parking would be about 100 cars +/- Done Feb 2018
Their website has been down for over a month (10 Oct 18), so here is the Daily Specials for those who want to know. Obviously, the menu has a lot more & it really is worth visiting (if only for the food). The chef is good, the bar staff are also. Do yourself a favour.... drop...
