Finally returned to and administered by the Deerubbin Local Aboriginal Land Council (in 2017) this deserted gaol is well worth a visit. Aiming to preserve both it's Colonial and Aboriginal heritage its still early days in its current evolution. First built in the 1840s it become a rundown & tough stay for inmates till it finally closed around 2010. Did a daytime visit as part of a rare open day. I saw signs for...

Well worth a look if you get the chance, a fascinating insight into the past. From all reports, there is a tunnel connecting here to the courts in the CBD, avoiding the exposure of transporting prisoners through the public.
