Food is great. Have been going there over 10 years, but last 2 times I wasn't happy with a service, their changed policy on splitting bills and lie about it. Apparently they had never been doing it on weekends, which is a lie. I had been going there for over 10 years only on Saturdays or Sundays and our group used to line up to pay for our food and drinks separately. This new guy stated that they've never done it. Upon asking this young tall man with curly brown hair how long has he been working there, he said 1 year and corrected himself, since he had been working there they're were not splitting bills on weekends. His whole attitude was fairly arrogant. Arrogance is contagious and may spread amongst other staff, which I felt 2nd time from bar staff. I'm disappointed since staff and management used to be very friendly and kind. I feel discouraged to go there and have already considered other places.
▪︎ Replying to owner's response: "I understand that a new policy of not splitting bills has started 2 years ago (as per your response). My point is, that the young man was lying and had arrogant attitude when discussing it with the customers. More honest, kind and mainly humble approach would be preferred style of customer service. There are business coaches also available to train those skills.
By the way I am very much aware that business processes and policies change, as well as staff, managers, and chefs. QR codes for restaurants are the future.
By the way, I have given Tommy's great reviews in the past (it seems you may have not noticed them), as well as in person and lots of recommendations to...
Read moreIf you want a food coma, then come to this place. Beware of the pork knuckle, it is actually a dinner for two. I was absolutely shocked when the gentleman dropped the plate on the table and said "champion of breakfasts". I was shocked I looked at it and thought to myself "are the staff playing a joke on me?" This thing looked like it could feed two adults or four kids. I left a photo of the left overs in the description.
The taste of this was amazing. I still can't believe that this costs $38. The quality is matched by its quantity. The pork was cooked all the way through and the crackling was done perfect. The pickles that came with the dish have to be hand made. It did not taste like store bought.
The wild cherry ale was amazing. I wish I could of tried the rest of the beers and even have desert, as you can see by the photo I could not.
The staff are friendly, but the greatest asset is Tommy himself. It is great to see a owner who truly cares about his guests. I see him introducing himself to everyone that walks in and also being friendly with his staff.
Tommy was very excited to actually show me the pig getting spit roasted in his beer garden, to his amazement he could not find it but still took the time to walk me to his kitchen to show me the pig. I have to say it very rare that business owners are this passionate about their trade.
I highly recommend you bring at least one person with you when you come here, you will need them and I 100% guarantee that they will not be disappointed. You want to impress, you bring people to Tommy's.
PS: Tommy can arrange parties...

This is probably the only place in Sydney where you can order – from the menu – an entire roasted pig that serves 25 people. It is called “pig on the spit banquet!” The super-friendly waiter got us the perfect place. We ordered Tommy’s mixed platter which is a kind of a sampling platter that comes with chicken – not veal – schnitzel on mashed potato, very tasty roasted duck on braised red cabbage and pork belly on East-European sauerkraut. The entire dish reminded my hubby of his Bohemian grand-ma’s superb cooking. Tommy’s food is hearty and cooked to perfection.
As we shared the substantial plate, we also enjoyed nice chips on the side. The evening was rounded up with two pieces of very filling and most exquisitely done “traditional bohemian strudel” that comes with strawberries, ice-crème, and whipped crème. Only Carlsbad wafers would have made us feel more at home. Apart from missing those thin wafers, Tommy’s was an utter delight. Since we missed out on the Hungarian goulash and the Czech dumplings, my hubby and I have already made a pact to return to Tommy’s Beer Café - soon. You cannot go wrong in a Czech restaurant that serves becherovka. This is a “we shall return”...
