I'll give you one great reason to be a Google reviewer. You walk into a patisserie/boulangerie and you can legitimately buy and gorge on a range of cakes and breads, and say "I can't give a fair review otherwise". It's a bit unfair to hit a place like this at 230pm. It's like expecting your last day of vacation to be as exciting as your first. The product here stands up to scrutiny, like a mummy to an Egyptologist. A croissant is as happy in humidity as an Inuit, but in this case, it acclimatised quick smart. The cheese and olive roll has a wonderful Foccacia like texture, with more tear, chew and sourdough yum than the hours in a basket would usually provide. The Paris Brest has big shoes to fill. A few km away, Lorraine's makes a version that any French patisserie would be proud to present. This one is right up there, though the choux is a little heavier than the top top..but this is a small issue in the scheme of a quality effort. I need to try the rest of the breads, the Danish and the crazy good looking flan...just for educational...

All the bakery items are traditionally made, a few with a twist. I asked questions and received great service, my fiancé who came in separately received a confused response, but that could just be a language hiccup. And certainly much warmer than had we been in France! Croissants so crispy and buttery, the bread heavy and satiating (especially rye, but sourdough too); interesting flavours: lemon poppyseed desert with lava flowing syrup and another custard? yuzu item was gentle and complicated. Chocolate brownie - I had better, but then as a chocolate addict I’m hard to please on these. For a French bakery it exceeded my expectations! There’s a mastery of pastry here and the service is just French. Reasonable prices given the quality. Come...

I have bought from Tonton Bread several times, both from Surry Hills shop and Willoughby Market stall.

This is my favourite boulangerie and in particular, their croissant is really nice, crispy outside and fluffy inside. I have tried various products from Tonton bread and I liked them all. I am happy to walk for 30 minutes from my home to get their Surry Hills shop on weekend, when the weather is fine.

I understand the ingredients have recently been getting expensive due to the inflation, but I thought 2 dollars for just 1 piece of chouquette is quite expensive.

So, 3 stars, whereas I would have given 5 stars if it had not been for this «2 dollar for 1 piece of chouquette» incident.

Still, this is one of my favourite boulangeries in...

I’m a huge fan of Tonton Bread! I used to be a regular when they were at the Peakhurst market on Saturdays. My favorite has always been the olive focaccia. The croissants, pastries, and bread are all top-notch. I visited their bakery in Surry Hills recently (or maybe it’s been a little while) to try the crookie, but they were sold out, so I picked up a few other treats instead. No photos this time, but as always, their pastries are outstanding—made with authentic French ingredients and crafted by French bakers, meeting all my standards for flakiness and flavor. It’s a real shame they’re no longer at Peakhurst!

Try the crispiest baguette, savoury potato and cheese focaccia, pain au raisin and a cappuccino on oat milk. This slice of france in Surry is a marvel. Their coffee aromatic, robust and strong, the bread, baked on site is so crusty it's ridiculous. There's also Paris Brest, other breads and sweets you can only imagine. And don't start me on the rich creamy hot chocolate. On soy of course. A hit.
