Booked to go here with a group of friends for high tea at $85 a head. We warned that there were a couple of dietaries, 2 vegetarians and one gluten free.
On arrival, we reminded the staff of the dietaries- one of the vegetarians they said they were actually pescetarian which meant they ate seafood however said that if the vegetarian was easier that was fine. They reassured us that all dietary requirements were catered for so pescetarian would be okay. The staff then came back after not leaving any menus and asked us what we wanted to order and when we said we had booked the high tea, there was a lot of confusion which resulted in about 3 staff members needing to come over.
We werenât offered to order drinks for 45 minutes and after sitting for an hour, seeing everyone around us receiving their food, we received some food- but it was the scones which were supposed to be the dessert. We told the waiter that we had not yet received our food so in another 15 minutes we were brought our lunch. We found that only one vegetarian was catered for and were advised of what was gluten free (4 finger sandwiches and all sweets) however the other vegetarian/pescetarian option was forgotten, leaving only 2 sandwiches and sweets to eat. The waiter who had previously told us that the gluten free member of our group could eat the 4 sandwiches and all sweets then came back with a tray of sweets, saying that the sweets we were initially told were GF actually werenât gluten free and that the ones that she was then bringing were.
Additionally, my cocktail (which was not cheap) was taken away when it was still half full. The lovely waitress replaced it free of charge which was good.
Through this whole experience, we were looking out for a waiter to come over for assistance however all staff were avoiding looking at our table (including the manager).
We also were surprised to find that the coffee and tea was limited to one per person which is not usually the case for high tea, especially at this price point.
We told the waitress of our issues when paying and no compensation was offered, we were advised that she would pass our concerns into a manager who would give us a call or we could raise this feedback online. I couldnât find anywhere online to contact crown directly which is why I find myself here
Be careful coming here if you have any dietary requirements as the venue doesnât seem to be organised enough to compensate. Very disappointing especially given the price point.
That said, the...

We had an absolutely terrible experience at TWR recently and were absolutely disgusted with the rude and arrogant attitude of the service staff. We came to TWR to have an afternoon tea, cocktails, coffees, etc, etc. However, waitress and the site manager insisted us in ordering some kind of 6 âpackagesâ which we did not need or agree with. We simply wanted to have afternoon tea and few drinks. Then the waitress with poor English suggested to have 3 packages consisting only of deserts and cakes. We were happy with that. However, at the end our total bill still showed 6 packages instead of 3 that we initially agreed with. When I questioned our bill - instead of being forthcoming and explaining - the manager simply called the security team and accused us of refusal to pay the bill! WHAT?? That was simply untrue, unbelievable, and embarrassing! We are the people who always leave 10-20% tips to the restaurantsâ staff, depending on their service. We never ever have refused to pay any bills! All this development was simply rudely unreal! All our afternoon and our good spirits have been destroyed by the rude and arrogant approach of TWR staff. We left TWR being disgusted with this place. We should have read their Google reviews prior to coming to TWR. Looks like many people had similar experience there.
Comparing to the other high profile Crown restaurants - TWR is simply not up to the standards to be part of Crown establishment and we are never...
Read moreI am only giving 1 star for the ONLY decent staff you had here- Kristin and Slava. I came here for dinner, and 2 hours later the food didnât come out. I was told the kitchen forgot to make it, and then an extremely rude waiter, âJohnsonâ threw some cold fries on my table, and told me no more food was available and that I should go home as they werenât even going to rectify the mistake. In the middle of my sentence trying to air my grievances to him, he actually walked away and ignored me. The disgust, disillusionment and anger I felt could not be paralleled if I tried. He then advised the only waitress who was actually working (Kristin) to avoid my table and then blamed her for his inadequacies. He was turning away customers when there was more than enough tables available outside, and dissuading people from ordering food. He then of course went home and left his mess behind. I am so beyond upset. My mother and I left without eating the dinner we were excited to eat and this was our last night at the Crown. Slava was the only gentleman there and the only staff who apologised for the terrible experience.
Please be selective with the staff you have there because the negative reviews will only continue. Quite frankly, you should be lucky to have staff like Slava and Kristin, the only two who were working last night while your other staff were busy chatting in a corner avoiding the work.
It should be called the waiting room because itâs where you wait for food that...
