In Toongabbie there's a row of restaurants that all do incredible Sri Lankan food. That's what the Lankan community tell me at least. A day trip to that whole Toongabbie-Pendle Hill part of Sydney will take you right into the thick of some of the best kottu, egg hop you'll find in Sydney. Xdream Dine indelicious and something has times (thank you guys!) so it'll be our first stop. I love the feeling of eating at places like these. Nothing flamboyant, but a new customer walks in every other minute. Everyone's a local, and it feels like everyone's a regular too. The food here is inexpensive, and the portion sizes are huge. They really are for the community. The various kottu (roti stir- fried up with spices, vegetables, egg and meat curries), tried rice and biryani will set you back around $15-16 ea. Nothing on menu is over $20. You can also get egg/cheese hoppers for $3.50 a pop to eat with the curries in the bain-marne, or choose from various tried snacks like pan roll (shaped like a chicko roll but with spiced mince and veg inside). If you haven't tried hoppers before, they're like bowl-shaped crispy crepes. Both the flufty egg with runny yolk and the melted cheese on the hoppers were great. The lamb biryani proved easily that Sri Lankans make good biryani too. It's fragrant and so nicely spiced, great with the yoghurt sauce. I came here with one thing in mind though dolphin kottu is a dish I had never tried before. What an interesting name. Dolphin. No, there's no dolphin meat! No dolphin was harmed. Apparently it gets it's name because it's cooked differently to standard kottu (in a wok, instead of on a grill), it uses paratha instead of ratı, and when wok frying it all together it appears like dolphins jumping out of the water. It looks creamy because it is. There's way more gravy than a normal kottu, and possibly a bit of milk or cream. Tastes fantastic and definitely worth a try! Expect to spend: $10 20

XDream offers a unique (primarily Sri Lankan cuisine) dining experience akin to a hostel canteen, where patrons can mix and match from a delightful array of curries and sides. It's a paradise for both vegetarians and meat lovers, boasting a wide selection of authentic dishes that capture the essence of home-cooked Sri Lankan cuisine. And a bit of Malaysian variety as well. The food itself is a standout feature, with each curry bursting with rich flavors and aromatic spices. From fragrant vegetable curries to succulent non-vegetarian options like spicy goat, chicken and seafood delicacies, every bite feels like a journey through Sri Lanka's culinary heritage. However, the dining experience is marred by inconsistent service. While the setup encourages a relaxed and casual atmosphere, the service lacks attentiveness and efficiency. Staff could benefit from more training to ensure smoother operations and a more pleasant customer interaction. Overall, the restaurant excels in delivering delicious, home-style Sri Lankan fare in a buffet format that allows for exploration and customization. With improvements in service, it could easily become a top choice for those craving authentic flavors in a casual setting.

They send you the wrong dish and tells you to give your number and they will contact you later. Very unworthy. Not recommended. Well, after this incident, they've explained and sent an $6 discount coupon. I got really impressed and ordered again. A full goat curry (which they claims: "Can be eat by upto 4 persons"). Have quoted their words here. I have included the photo as well. Readers, please have a look, and decide by yourself. To the readers and reviewers: please be cautious while reviewing this business. Instead of resolving the conflict, the owner could threat you of lodging complaint against you. This is not the way customers are treated in Australia. Note: I don't have any personal grudge, nor do I have visited this business before. I have just shared my experience. The rest can be seen from the owner's unprofessional reply against this negative review. And not to mention, all the replies makes it even worse. Please understand a review from customer's perspective. Please don't reply from owner's point of view. I hope this review will help you work on your areas of improvement. Good Luck!

Extremely disappointed with the customer service today. The young man with a black apron at the pass today, was really rude to us. This is what happened, we got to the shop and ordered 10 parotta take away, he literally PUSHED two pre-packed parotta packets towards our hand on the pass. Since the pre-packed ones HE PUSHED towards us were not as hot as we wanted, we asked if we could get 10 hot ones ( I have a toddler who would like to eat it hot on our way back home) he instantly said it will TAKE 1 HOUR and if we want fresh ones “WAIT FOR 1 HOUR”. All this was communicated with so much attitude and NO EYE CONTACT. Irony was, another staff - a girl ( I have been served by her many times before) came towards us while we were about to leave and when we told her we wanted 10 hot poratta , she packed and gave it to us in less than 5 MINS. Just reminding you, we were now served something that the young mans said would take 1 HOUR. I felt really let down as a customer today. One last thing I would like to say, please don’t judge and tailor your service to customers, based on the dollars they spent because you just lost one who has been your customer for 2 years, spent 100s of dollars with you, gave you good referrals ( I have referred many of our friend to Xdream) and had the potential to spend...

Be careful when ordering any of the short-eats especially ones with egg or chicken. Whilst for most part the food smelt okay, there appears to be a lack of attention paid to some of the food regulations when it comes to temperature control. I purchased a whole bag full of short-eats (not exactly cheap), started tasting each variety after about an hour of purchase. Most of them were fine except one with egg in it. It was horrendous, smelt absolutely horrible and clearly not freshly made nor kept under the correct temperature (Spoiled). This could have easily been fatal, luckily after a couple of munches I picked up on the problem. Please watch for items kept in a Bain-Marie, ask how recently they were cooked. Items like curries which have meat & eggs should be steaming & not warm, they should be HOT. Whilst you would like to think that sellers will do the right thing, there are many that take shortcuts and getaway with it. I hope Xdream pays more attention to food safety regulations in the future. Looking at older reviews it looks like this is not the first time this has been reported at this shop, it appears that they either do not read their reviews or are very slow learners. I think spot checks from the health department are in order for...
