Apart from one friendly girl working at the register, I was exceedingly disappointed by the service at this particular branch of XS Espresso. First, let's just get straight to the (literal) meat of the issue; the steak sandwich was mediocre. As you'll see from the photo, it was a mess. It barely contained any meat. It had one pathetic slice of un-ripened tomato inside - the other half had no tomato at all; which shows a lack of consistency and attention to detail. That tiny bit of beetroot you can see in the photo? That's all the sandwich contained. It was filled with copious amounts of limp iceberg lettuce (for the price point, I'm surprised to see such a cheap and nutrition-lacking choice of lettuce being used). And the worst part? It was cold... How? (and this brings me to my second issue...) See, I ordered an Acai bowl, and a steak sandwich as a take-away order. You'd imagine that both products would be handed to you at the same time. Makes sense, right? And if the hot food is ready first, you keep it under the heater while you make the (quicker to prepare) cold food. Or, if you are a little silly, you make the cold food first, then keep it in the fridge/freezer while you cook the hot food. Simple kitchen dynamics. "So what happened" I hear you ask? I get the Acai bowl first - after about 10 minutes of waiting. And then, I am left waiting a further 15 minutes for my steak sandwich - as I watch my Acai bowl slowly melt. Eventually I receive the steak sandwich. And I assume it must've been freshly made since I had to wait for so long. Now, it's important to note that I live 3 minutes away from the store. If you walked in slowly increasing concentric circles - starting from the cafe, and shouted my name, I'd eventually hear it after a short while. So then, how on earth is my steak sandwich cold by the time I get home? Wasn't it freshly made? I mean, I did have to wait 25 minutes for it to be presented to me. I even had to watch my dessert slowly melt before my eyes. And I need to reiterate - this exact occurrence has happened before. At this exact same location. They aren't consistent with their food quality, but they are consistent with their (below average) service. While I was waiting, I had the pleasure of sitting there and watching the staff continuously tell people "It'll be ready shortly. In 2 minutes." As the same customers had to wait 10+ minutes. And I got to bask in the ambiance of music that was set so loudly (again, it's a regular thing here), that people had to shout to be heard. But hey, I got to go home to a cold sandwich and a half-melted Acai bowl that contained rock-hard frozen strawberries... (Seriously, for the price point, a man can't even get fresh strawberries? Shameful.) If you're looking for a decent meal, I'd say don't bother with this place. The quality is sub-standard across the board.

Let’s start with the food: it is what got them the two stars really. Otherwise it would have been zero. Their food is nice which is what you expect from cafe. My poached eggs did come dry however there were four of us, everyone else enjoyed their meal so 3/4 meals in good order not so bad. This is where their services stop. XS have ZERO customer service. The waitress came in dumped the menus mumbled something, took off in the middle of the sentence. We asked for water, got told to get it ourselves from an urn located next to another table, my brother ended up hovering next to a poor couple for 7 minutes trying to get 4 PAPER cups filled up, no tray to carry them my husband ended up having to follow since non of us posses more than 2 hands. Food came in, it is not placed in front of you no XS is too cool for old school manners so the waitress stands to one end of the table and passes you the plate. In all honesty I go out to eat to get service when I’m paying an average of $17 a plate I expect the plate to be placed in front of me. No cutlery had to wait for that too as they had ran out, no napkins my husband grabbed them for us. Coffee: burn roasted. While XS prides itself on its milkshake, they are looks only. Their milkshakes are more like A pile of sugar doused in chocolate. The caramel milkshake tasted nothing like caramel. The ambiance was loud and too dark. If you want a nice conversation over a late Sunday breakfast forget about this place, it is trying too hard to be urban and failing miserably. I encourage you to have a look at their Instagram 37.4 K followers and 20 likes per post (purchased followers)

This is a place where you want to be for drinks and desserts. The cafe has seating on ground brightly lit and mezzanine level dark with no natural light, I was seated upstairs unfortunately so it was a bit warm and dark. I was a bit disappointed with how the food and drinks were presented as it didn’t look like the pretty photos I saw on Instagram which I was hoping for. For the taste, the Belgium chocolate hot cakes was actually yummy but very rich and heavy for someone who likes to eat dessert even for breakfast! The original cronut shake looks really good, but once again even for chocolate lovers, there is an overdose of chocolate elements in the drink that will put you off. The chicken and waffle is a nice savoury dish with well balanced of flavours and a nice coleslaw. The service is fast and does not take long for your meals to arrive, you just need to pay before you eat. Will definitely give it another try but maybe without any dessert and sweet drinks.

Extremely disappointed with the cafe today. Service is terrible and slow. We waited at the sign that said queue here and nobody came to attend to us even though there were numerous employees just standing around. You don't even know who's working here because there's no uniform, not even any aprons to indicate who the employees are. Instead they wear hoodies and just lean around ignoring customers. After ordering we sat down and waited for 40 minutes for our food when the store was extremely quiet. The only other people in the cafe had their food and there was only one other table waiting for food. When we looked into the kitchen and where the waitresses were 3 out of 4 people we saw were on their phones doing nothing while we had already waited half an hour for our food. Even one of the cooks was on his phone.

By the time our food came we were disappointed at the wait time and the waitress who served us in a white adidas hoodie said nothing and just put the food on the table, no apology about the wait, she then went back to chat and swear with her co-workers.

The ricotta hotcakes were sad. It tasted like a bland cake with no trace of ricotta with some fruit. I don't see why that had to take 40 minutes to prepare. The chicken and waffles were bland and covered in mayo.

We were not the only ones upset with the wait as the other table waiting asked for a refund for her waffles because she had already finished her coffee that came earlier.

Your wait staff either don't like their jobs or are just bad at their jobs. Please follow up with phone policies especially if your customers are waiting unreasonable times for food when the store is not even busy just to see your staff browse on their phones.

Extremely, disappointing. I would never go to this cafe again and I do not recommend that anyone...

As a loyal customer of XS, i am happy to say that i am amazed by the friendly and ongoing teamwork that the work establishment has.

Not only is the food delicious from both the cooking side and also the shakes side, but also from the coffees and outstandingly designed shakes!!!

i have continued to spread the word about XS and the amazing service that is delivered on a daily basis. The customer service is beyond what could be asked of and the staff always manage to brighten your day. Even when seated at tables the staff are super friendly.

Even through the past couple of weeks due to the humidity and the disgusting amount of flies, the staff in my eyes have always managed to try their best the get rid of them.

Every morning while i wait for my coffee, there is always a young lady who cares about the reputation of the workplace and has been using insect spray to minimise the infestation of flies and also making sure tables are clean and fully wiped before the busy rush.

As many people have been trying to tarnish the reputation of XS, i would proudly say that i would have to disagree with you. I am stating my opinion when saying this but it is a HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY, it will get extremely busy but the staff always manage to make the customers pleased with their meals. As i have been their during lunch time (their rush period), i have noticed that it is hard to maintain the consistency of having cutlery. There is nothing wrong with waiting 5 minutes for a fresh batch of cutlery to come out. Many people are over exaggerating about this as well as the issue of waiting outside if an order is for takeaway. Do not think of this is a big deal because i am always at XS in Wetherill Park and i would rather wait in heat or even for 20-25 minutes for an exceptional...
