We'd been hearing about this place for quite a while with nothing but good reports, so finally last weekend our friends suggested we take lunch there. They had eaten there on many occasions.
It used to be a lawn bowling club, so the interior of the restaurant has the look and feel of just that, a bowling club. I certainly wouldn't classify it as atmospheric in any way really. Our booking was for midday so there was only one other couple when we arrived, but I believe this place can get quite noisy when it's full. The floorboards wouldn't help the noise either.
The menu is quite extensive with something to please most people, my wife and I ordered the fish and chips, which is actually fresh Barramundi fillets which there are two large fillets a serving of chips, fresh salad and a small portion of roasted vegetables. In all, our portions were very generous. The fish was about as fresh as you could expect and absolutely delicious.
My wife and I aren't particularly steak eaters being the result of way too many disappointing steak experiences. So, considering some of the prices of the steak meals we aired on the side of caution. However, that's what this place is all about after all, their meat. We will definitely return to the Grill and next time we'll take a leap of faith and order a steak meal.
If you're looking for a romantic setting and atmosphere, then the Grill may not be the restaurant you're looking for. But if you're looking for a delicious meal of fresh produce and generous portions then I would highly...
Read moreWe had Xmas Day lunch @ the Grill. We ordered for Entree:- Creamy Garlic Prawns, Calamari & Halloumi Mains:- Lobster Mornay( with awesome chips), Pork Belly & Gourmet Tenderloin The only negative about the food was that the 'creamy' garlic prawns entree was a watery consistency sauce wise. Our waitress was very nice, friendly & attentive to start with as far as ordering food & drinks were concerned. As for anything over and above we had to seek her attention which we did on a couple of occasions, one of which I ordered another beverage which did not arrive. There were desserts being taken to other tables - we were never approached and asked if we would like dessert either so the restuarant lost out both beverage & dessert wise with us. The service or lack of was very disappointing and leaves a lot of room for improvement. In saying that I do not believe it was a Xmas Day staffing issue as I have had other people since advise me that they have experienced the same problem on an average run of the mill day. However on reading other reviews they have received good service reviews so I have to say that I would go back as the food overall was very good & I would like to try other options on the menu & the prices I found to be very reasonable & hopefully next time the service will have improved -...
Read moreDISAPPOINTING Some of the food was OK, but any atmosphere was spoilt by a child’s birthday party with 6 noisy children. NOTE: Not quite the romantic couples dinner venue. The oysters on the seafood platter were the tiniest I have ever seen and I am surprised that the kitchen even sent them out! When this was bought up with our waitress, who appeared to be one of the owners, as we paid the bill, another waitress piped up and told us it was the last of their oyster supply. Why she even joined our conversation uninvited is a mystery as she had not served us all night. Why she interrupted our conversation with our waitress/owner with excuses as to why our oysters were so horrendously undersized is a mystery. Even more dumbfounding is why our waitress and possible owner allowed her to interrupt with defensive and pathetic excuses is even more perplexing. There is really is no excuse to serve them if they are substandard. We were trying to give constructive feedback which clearly was not wanted. A finger bowl is also essential and not negotiable with the seafood platter. Cheap and cheerful the food maybe but with drinks etc we spent $257 for 2, tried to give constructive feedback which was dismissed and we...
