Just passing through town a week ago, and needing to eat, I wandered in to Liv Eat not really knowing what to expect.
The display fridge looked pretty good but on a cold day I was after a hot meal, so I ordered a chicken burger and some fries… from the most bored young male server I’ve seen in a long time. No smile, no welcome, and very little interest in helping a brand new customer navigate their way around.
Unsure of whether my meal would be brought out to me, or if I should wait, I lingered near the coffee counter and observed the staff. A general lack of urgency and a sense of disorganisation in the system prevailed. The only person who made eye contact was the woman who eventually gave me my meal, and I had the distinct impression it was not her job to do so. She looked frazzled and apologetic, but she was the only person who seemed to care about what she was doing. Thumbs up to that person!
My food was excellent. The burger was tasty, and well prepared, and the fries were delicious. I sat near the windows at watched the world go by for a while. A very pleasant break.
Alas, before leaving I used the toilets, which were in need of a thorough cleaning, particularly the floor which was appallingly grubby.

Read moreThe space is nice and bright and there’s a good vibe to the place. There’s a good selection of pre prepared food as well as things that are cooked to order.
I ordered the chilli bowl and paid for extra meat. If there was 10g of mince in the whole bowl I would be shocked. I was really disappointed as after a long drive I had been starving and it was just white rice, a few beans and then laden with sour cream and guacamole. My partner had the falafel burrito and asked for the pico de gallo to be removed as she can’t eat coriander/cilantro. The server didn’t mention fresh coriander was put into the burrito on top and it isn’t listed in the ingredients. She’s not allergic but it just tastes like soap to her so while she was able to pick out most it didn’t make for a great meal.
I wanted to love this place but it was really not great. I...
Read more$11 for the smallest chicken and cheese breakfast sandwich is ridiculous. When we saw it, we thought it was a mistake. Still feeling hungry, my husband got a lemon and poppy seed muffin with a mere hint of poppy seeds in it - do you have to be stingy with poppy seeds? Sadly my chocolate chip muffin was even worse. The cake was a milky tea brown, looking as though the word ‘cocoa’ might have been whispered next to it but not placed in it. The coffees were good, but the obvious stinginess of the food left me feeling pretty annoyed. We all know what size a decent sandwich is, that a muffin should be stuffed with poppyseeds or look dark brown. This is...
