Walking into Three An's near Docklands, Melbourne, is like uncovering a culinary secret that everyone seems to be in on. The atmosphere is welcoming and unpretentious, a haven where the staff greet you with the kind of warmth that makes you feel like you’ve been coming here for years.

But let's talk about the real star of the show: the food. Specifically, the Bánh Mi. This is not just a sandwich; it’s an experience. The tiger bread, crispy on the outside with a pillowy interior, holds a symphony of flavors that are nothing short of transformative. The crispy pork, with its succulent extra meat and rich pâté, is a testament to culinary craftsmanship. Each bite is a harmonious blend of crunch, tenderness, and umami that leaves you craving more.

The menu also boasts other Vietnamese staples like Bun and Pho, each dish executed with the same level of care and authenticity. But if you’re taking my advice, don’t miss out on the Bánh Mi. It’s a masterpiece that stands tall in Melbourne’s vibrant food scene, easily eclipsing Nhu Lan and giving my all-time favorite, Selina’s in Sunshine, a run for its money.

The prices are reasonable, adding to the charm of this already enchanting spot. The people here are genuinely lovely, enhancing the overall experience with their friendly and attentive service. However, a word to the wise – arrive before the lunchtime rush. This place fills up quickly, and for good reason.

Three An's isn’t just a place to eat; it’s a destination. It’s a love letter to Vietnamese street food, served up with passion and precision right in the heart...

I had the pleasure of visiting one of the best Vietnamese spots for lunch during office hours today. I went for a delicious pork rice dish that came with grilled pork, and a fried egg. The French fries looked too tempting to resist, so I also got a small pack for $5—and I am so glad I did. They were absolutely fantastic, super crunchy (if McDonald's starts serving these fries, they would probably sell more Burgers.)!

The staff, especially the ladies serving, were warm, friendly, and attentive. They were quite amused when I tried using a few words in broken Vietnamese while placing my order, and they were genuinely amused and appreciative.. They were great to chat with and genuinely seemed to enjoy what they do, which made the whole experience...

Three Ans banh mi has some of the best Vietnamese vegan options in Melbourne.

I love the vegan mock duck and mock pork banh mi & highly recommend coming here if you work in Docklands. Try to avoid the lunchtime rush because it is very popular. The price is also very reasonable.

Three Ans offer: vegan baguettes/ banh mis bún noodle salad rice paper rolls (pre-made) steamed rice dishes

Vegan options include tofu vegan pork vegan duck vegan chicken salad

The only negatives are the wait during the lunchtime rush, lack of seating, and sometimes selling out of the popular vegan options. There is also animal meat displayed in the counter, but thankfully the vegan options are kept...

A charcoal pork variant of the bánh mì. Yummy. Chewy meat, its mild sweetness complemented by the surprise addition of peanut. I knew going in it was going to be the super soft tiger roll experience so not disappointed (fun and fresh but not my favourite). Overall a very yummy banh mi packed with flavour, definitely on the sweet side. The Vietnamese guy serving (the husband of the lady that runs it) told me an Italian chef makes the steamed buns - I was promised they were not too sweet and he was right! A lovely version of a red bean fluffy warm bau. Sucked down a sweet cold brew too (can’t really review Vietnamese coffee though because they all taste the same to me - always sweetened-condensed-milk-yum).
