This is a great park for Docklands Residents to enjoy a bbq a relaxing picnic or just to sit and read a book and the only local area that people specially the older residents with pets that no longer drive to let they pets have a bit of a run and exercise as there all confined in apartments all day The only problem is that it is not an off leash park so people that have pets are not able to exercise and give there animals an opportunity to have a run as most vets insist and recommend for pets good health ! Majority of residents that define the rule for the well-being of there pet unfortunately get fined by the council rangers that are always lurking around to issue fines off $148 dollars on the spot very rudely and very confrontational It is unethical to say the least as those older most of the time residents can’t take they pet twice a day anywhere else as everything else available to them is at least 3 k away from the area So for the Helth and happiness of they beloved companions they risk getting fined almost weekly ( it had become a very good revenue making facility for MELBOURNE CITY COUNCIL) It is shameful and sad to be targeting these people purely for the council to make money
I am confident that the council and residents can come to an agreement that can make everyone happy by giving the residents with pets a certain hour in the morning and afternoon to be able to give there pets a bit of a run with out the stress frustration and worry of being fined ! Most of these pets are very well behaved and are very friendly and most owners are very responsible in picking up after they pets and it will make everyone so much happier There is a children’s playground that hardly ever gets used as there are very few children in The area but over 30 pets ( primarily dogs) I suggest the council review they position on this matter as it is having a very negative effect to the local pet owners community as we seek to unite all residents in the area and enjoy there facilities It’s a very logical solution to a very frustrating situation that has been going on for over 8 years with no end in sight ! and something...
Read moreWhispering forests with magical boats Looking to ignite your child's imagination and outdoor play experience? Blowhole is a dynamic wind-powered sculpture at Docklands Park. The fifteen metre high structure and its cacophony of orange and blue wind-catching cups somehow managed to cost $700,000. There is meant to be some sort of symbolic meaning attached to the mesmerising aluminium and steel creation, although how it relates is a mystery to me. There's is a whispering forest in the heart of Docklands. From the outside it looks like a row of trees, but step inside underneath the canopy of blue, grey Sheoaks, and hear them sighing when the blows. Follow the narrow gravel paths through the forest and end up in the central open space and the heart of the dry creek bed. Situated along the creek are study boat structures that look like seed pods, and when tucked inside it's easy to imagine you are off to the land where the wild things are. What's different from a lot of open air playgrounds, is the trees are an important play element. Kids can use their fertile imagination to uncover hiding places and discover their own stories as they run around the multitude of tree trunks. I like that this is such a small simple playspace with a minimum of elements encouraging games with its own atmosphere and mystery. For families there's tables and a barbecue for use. So if the surrounding high rises are getting a bit much, take a break in the whispering Sheoak forest and see where your...
Read moreIt was our EOFY party the night before on a Thursday. I know - who plans an EOFY party on Thursday. Anyways I made the most of it. Drinks flowed, I never had a free hand with a mini sausage roll in one hand and house sparkling in the other. Laughter in the air, happiness on our hearts and the one guy who drank way too much by 7PM in the background. I knew I had to be at work by 8.30 the next day, but it was 2 AM and Danza kuduro just came on at Ms Collins. The crows roared. So we had to stay for one.more.dance. The morning came... I was in at 8.35. The days before I'd made sure I'd had some vitamins and 2 Nurofens before I went to bed so the effects of the hangover were as muted as possible. I was okay, but tired from the 3 hours of sleep after almost 5 hours of dancing. Lunchtime came and work was really dragging. I walked out of Collins square and went for a wander. The day was lovely , light breeze welcoming winter, but a warm sun still clutching onto the powders of spring. I made my way to the almost artificially green but perfectly mowed grass of docklands park. I lay down, shut my eyes and had the most charming- and much needed- lunchtime nap. 10/10 recommend for a nap...
