The first things we noticed about our room at the Oriental Hotel were the earplugs on the bath-towels on the bed (where in other hotels you might get a cake of soap). All a bit alarming, and is was very noisy from say 5 to 6pm with lots of logging trucks rumbling past in the street outside. But after that it was quiet - we had no need for the earplugs at all. Overall, we thought the hotel very good, though were disappointed with the wifi reception in our room (it was better in the bar downstairs). We had seen reviews that commented on the excellent wifi that sold us on the place but when we got there it was a different story, with the woman who checked us in saying it could be 'hit and miss'. It was more miss than hit on our visit. On the plus side, the room was relatively spacious for an older style hotel, the bed comfortable and the shared bathrooms spotlessly clean. The tariff was reasonable and, downstairs in the pub, there is an excellent, highly rated restaurant (another reason we stayed here) and a pleasant bar area. The wide balcony outside the room was also excellent, but definitely not between 5 and 6pm for the reasons...

The ORI has been a revelation in my personal life since Monday night this week.

I was seeking out a periodic residential home IN ❤️Tumut over the next 18, 24 or 36 months.

I absolutely adore old distinguished aged hotels all over the world.

As an obsessive and somewhat deranged traveller, I have rarely stayed in one so authentic and so lovingly restored. The ORI has a special reputation in Tumut and across Australia’s High Country, both for its seriously yummy food and for the quality of its staff who engage with youthful energy with the many families and older folk who also love having fun in this pub’s historic walls.

The ORI has truly delivered a dividend in comfort and belonging for my next “Semantic systems just don’t work!” adventure in Banjo’s wild bush horses country.

The (iAL3 P&p) VIEW from The Western Fall of the Main Range . . .

Then they lost him for a moment, where two mountain gullies met In the ranges, but a final glimpse reveals

On a dim and distant (snow covered) hillside the wild horses racing yet, With the man from Snowy River at...

We stumbled upon Tumut while trying to find a half way place between Melbourne and Sydney for a Girls weekend. From the moment we stepped into the pub it’s been an amazing experience. Ruby checked us into our room and was so lovely. We then come down stairs for dinner, and the Brisket was absolutely amazing! Very happy! The rooms are clean, fresh, and the shared bathrooms are new and very roomy! And what an amazing shower! The next day we did the Gin tasting experience, Vanessa was amazing and very knowledgeable. We then come back down and listened to some amazing music. It’s been a wonderful weekend and we will be back for sure! Thank you from some very happy ladies who enjoyed there girls weekend!

Found this walking about the town, as visiting for the weekend. Saw cocktails available sign. We found a nice spot outside. The barman was so friendly. He had never made espresso martinnis before, did an awesome job, so ordered 2 rounds. They had no hot food available other than some pizzas. They were ok. Great customer service. Well done. Update 25 March 2023. Revisited Tumut, same friendly barman, another round of perfect Espresso Martinnis, had a great chat with him and other friendly team members. Said Barman made us Cosmopolitans, the best I have ever had. This venue is truly Tumuts Cocktail Hub! Well worth popping in for a bevvie or 3 and a meal.

Great service and food that obviously came from a chef not a pub cook. We had the whole oven baked trout with lemon capers and potato salad, chicken schnitzel and chips, both with salad. Good variety of beverages on tap and more in the fridge and spirits behind the bar. The Nutella cheese cake went awesomely with the Kosciusko Pinot noir. Very good family experience.
