The Shack 2428 — Restaurant in Tuncurry

It's sad when a business plummets in quality, service and product overnight, but that's what's happened here. Only 3 months ago I wrote a highly complimentary review, but today, under its new ownership, it is well below what it was and what people expect. I've been twice since the new owner bought it and, after a disappointing experience the first time (cold chips and wrong order), I thought I'd give it a second chance. I wish I hadn't. It takes 15 minutes from ordering to get your food, but when it arrived I saw the new owner has also changed the chips. They are now thin, soggy and very low quality. When we asked him if he would consider going back to the previous chips he answered 'No'. Literally, a one word answer. We asked "why not if customers prefer them?" and he said "it's easier cos I use the same over the road" ( He owns 'Salt by the sea' too). Disappointing. The menu is still varied, but both the times I've visited since it changed owners, they got orders wrong. Not just a little bit, but completely the wrong burger and wrong bread. My friends chicken and avocado had no avocado, the chilli sauce (which used to be an amazing homemade delight) was bland, and the atmoshere was really rather tense, perhaps due to the gruff, disinterested service. I love buying food from this take away/eat in. Well cooked and reasonably priced, it includes vegetarian and vegan options, which is GREAT!! They also do a great thick shake. It has a few large tables inside and some small wooden tables outside. Outside may not be everyone's favourite as it on the main road but it is only one minute to the lakeside and two minutes to the Rockpool, which is where we go to ear ours. We've always had good ,friendly service even when they are super busy. It may be challengingfor those in wheelchairs toaacessthe shop front but if you rang ahead and ordered, you could pick up at the side door. Parking right outside can be an issue during holiday season but if you drive through the bottle shop next door you can park around the back. Depending on the time of day you may be able to walk through one of the other shops back to the main street or go back through the bottle shop. Worth it, especially if you are sick of the same...

Absolutely shocking service from the manager, was told all chicken breast was crumbed there, ordered a tender wrap and the tender was rectangle and processed. When going back to explain i thought all chicken was home crumbed the manager gave the worst attitude and said i should have asked if it was, though it says it on the menu. I told her i didnt want a refund i just want to change it and she told me that it cost her business money that i didn't eat wrap then she charged me an extra $5 for a burger that cost the same amount as the wrap, to think when asking these people the healthier option and they recommned the wrap and it ends up being processed is disgusting, and the fact that the attitude and customer service was pathetic is wrong.
