If I could leave no stars for service I would. Me and my partner went to the deck for breakfast this morning after previous good experience. Unfortunately we were not met with the same service from the new owners. When sat down we were told it would be a 30 minute wait. 45 minutes had passed and our drinks were finally brought out, I kindly asked the blond hair waitress how much longer the food would be, to which she responded โwe did tell you it would be a 40 minute wait when you came inโ in a rude tone. My response, we have been waiting 45 minutes. When the food was finally brought out another 5 minutes later, I received the comment โitโs been exactly 40 minutes since the order hit the kitchenโ again in a rude tone. When asked what her problem was and requesting to speak to the owner she told us she was the owner and there was no one else to speak to. Tops to the chef though the food was decent. The couple beside us had been waiting 40 minutes for two coffees which had been given to another table, when questioned they also received rude comments and attitude from the waitresses. When i went to the counter to pay, I watched the blond haired girl make a comment and laugh to another waitress telling her to serve me. She also had a terrible attitude, I wish I could have walked out and not paid. Additionally the waitresses all had very inappropriate short skirts barely covering the bums as workwear, definitely not appropriate for a family restaurant. Giving night club vibes. Do not recommend this palace one but you should seek your business. PS...

What came out was a plate full of small river prawns instead, on both the king prawn plate and the seafood picking plate. The dishes were quite average, no better than a typical fish and chip joint. For the price, itโs not fantastic value. What we also found out halfway through our meal, was that the crab cake on the picking plate wasnโt actually crab but regular fish. We overheard a waitress tell another table that this was the case, but we wouldnโt be able to tell the difference.
We shared both plates and the waiter said he would bring us sharing plates, which never came. Although, it a busy day - the service was quite slow too.
When paying, we mentioned the issue with our order to the lady at the cashier. We said the menu was misleading and we had even asked the waitress about the prawns before ordering. The lady told us the co-op next door sold them as king prawns, but then admitted that because we werenโt getting big prawns thatโs why we got a whole bunch of little ones. Just because your supplier sells them as king prawns, doesnโt mean you need to mislead your customers too.
Just some honesty and integrity at the time of ordering and paying would have sufficed. Please donโt treat us like idiots when we call out...
ย ย ย Read moreThe Deck Cafe, Tuncurry boasts beautiful views across Wallis Lake towards Forster. One can sit outside in the sunshine or inside, but either way you can still enjoy the lakeside ambience. The host, Ed Henry is in my opinion one of the top baristas I know as evidenced by a consistently great quality of coffee with a full flavour and made to your liking. I enjoyed his coffees at other cafes where he worked before he recently bought The Deck. It is also a learning experience just listening to him discuss how the coffee is made and how he demands the highest standards of coffee-making of himself. He is warm and engaging and you are made to feel special as a customer. We are regulars and enjoy the meals here as well as the coffee. My favourite dish is the "Three Bennies" and I love that the salmon is the actual fish and not the smoked variety. It is "melt in your mouth" quality and like the coffee, consistently made to a high standard. Thoroughly...
