I honestly was in doubt when my 2 Filipino friends asked to try DVJ after I mentioned it many times as an Indonesian well known restaurant in Perth, as I myself never tried their food and Indonesian food in Perth is sometimes a hit and miss. We started only with 3 dishes, Nasi Iga Bakar, Mie Goreng Seafood, and Nasi Paru Goreng, as I tried to keep my friends expectation low. While waiting, we saw the staffs brought out the foods of other customers, and thats where it began. Nasi Bebek Cabe Ijo, Martabak Sapi, Terong Goreng, Telur Balado, 3 Sambal (Sambal Terasi, Sambal Matah, Sambal Bawang), and Es Cendol are the victims of my friends curiosity as they drooled themselves seeing all the foods sent to the other customers. When the food came, it was a lot of foods. None of them, I repeat, none of them were not beautiful. Mie goreng seafood which I usually aint a big fan of was perfect, my paru goreng was generously portioned and with perfect texture (soft in centre and crispy on the edge), iga bakar so tender and perfectly seasoned which I never tried before made me wondering where have I wasted my life this whole time as it was simply the best food Ive ever ate, and the bebek is such a shame because we only ordered one. The terong was freshly fried, the sambals, my friends kept repeating how nice they were, made it more like main food instead of side dish. The es cendol we supposedly share was finished by them as they just like it that much. That was a busy night, but the staff still patiently take my 3-4 times separated order, all foods still came almost at the same time, and they kindly made my friends feel welcomed after meal by checkin on them and talking with them. We went home only with martabak as weve finished the rest of the foods. 5 star food, 5 star service, 100% will be back with foreign friends. Sorry for a long review, were just amazed with the...

Dapur Van Java is an absolute gem! From the moment I walked in, I knew I was in for a treat. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with a charming touch of Java's cultural richness.

The menu is a culinary journey through exquisite flavors. Each dish is a masterpiece, showcasing the artistry and passion of the chefs. The authenticity of the Java-inspired cuisine is truly unparalleled; it's like taking a trip to Indonesia without leaving your seat.

The staff's hospitality is exceptional. They not only know the menu inside out but also go the extra mile to ensure a memorable dining experience. From recommendations to accommodating special requests, their attention to detail is commendable.

So.. eaten he many times... however, they run a scam which ive never seen anywhere else.... ran out of beef rendang so asked for nasi Goreng with ayam bakar, and add another piece of ayam....so....two.... they then charge you for a two meal purchase... I said.. why would I pay another 26$ for a piece of chicken.... he tells me that's how they do it... I said, you choose to do that. Are they that desperate for money they cant even work out how to charge you 7$ for additional piece of chicken....absolutely disgusting... look at the size of the chicken serving in the image.....and they want to charge 26$ for another piece?

You cleverly reply and remove the option to reply further so I will just amend thjs... I made it clear to the staff member 5 times what I was asking for - very clear - the price went from 52$ to 26$ when I told him I did not want to order TWO meals but only want an extra piece or chicken. I was very clear stating I wanted nasi Goreng with ayam bakar, and two telur belado. I then asked for an extra piece of chicken ....repeatedly...there was mo misunderstanding.... he clearly stated that we do can not do that... the fact you also use two different sizes of chicken pieces is again....unheard of....youre a busy location...surely you're not that scummy and desperate to rip off customers.... come on now. Provide a...

Dinner @DapurVanJava for Indonesian fare. Highly recommend a booking is made, the place is busy and not that big but the people are packed in and so they should as the food is delicious. Gado Gado: Mixed vegies served with tempe, tofu, boiled egg, crackers, and medium spicy peanut sauce. Steamed vegies is boring but peanut sauce elevates it to something else. The peanut sauce is strong and intense, thick and unctuous. The veggies taste great and with the crunchy crackers this is a lovely start to the meal. Iga bakar saus kacang: Grilled beef ribs with rice and peanut sauce. Tender beef falling off the bone, immersed in peanut sauce and mopped up by the steamed rice, this is another delicious dish. Bebek Betutu Bali: roast duck in Balinese spices served with rice, plecing (vegs+sambal), egg and peanut. A generous piece of tender duck covered in a unique blend of intense concentrated spices, this is further enhanced by the spicy sambal and veggies, plus the crunch of peanuts. The Balinese spice are subtle in chilli but do build. Excellent meal. #IndonesianFood #BalineseFood #gadogado #veggies #peanutsauce #rice #beefribs #roastduck #sambal #plecing #tempe #tofu #dinner #Foodie #perthfood #VictoriaPark

Food is decent but not sure what happened with the service. Firstly, Rendang was sold out so had to choose another dish. Meals for 3 people came out so staggered and last meal took an hour after ordering. Everyone got their meal at different times, other tables that arrived after us finished eating before our last meal was served. I eventually did ask the front about the last 2 of our table’s meals and they seemed to make an excuse that the food was delayed because they make it one by one even though they had to ask what the missing dishes were. Idk why they didn’t just own up to it. They clearly only made one and forgot the rest in my opinion. It really wasted our time as we could have finished and left earlier. We had things to do! I’ve been here a good handful of times and was embarrassed to have taken my mum and partner here after that experience. You can see I finished my meal long after my mum got her meal, and she was half done by the time my partner got his!

It was an overall nice experience. It was a small and cosy restaurant with friendly staff. The place needs some renovation to rejuvenate its vibrancy as it is looking a bit tired. The food was ok and could be improved. Satay was nice but dry. Ayam penyet (Indonesian smashed chicken rice) came in small portion. The Maryland drumstick was a small piece. Taste wise was good, the sambal was good. Mee goreng was ok, nothing to rave about. Happy soda was flat and disappointing. We also order gado gado (an Indonesian salad of raw, slightly boiled, blanched or steamed vegetables and hard-boiled eggs, boiled potato, fried tofu and tempeh) and Tahu telor (an Indonesian tofu omelette presented with a spicy and creamy sauce) - they were delicious, the sauce was excellent and well presented. I would recommend a try and it is good to support support local businesses through the pandemic.
