The only reason I have given this place 1 star is because there is no option for no stars at all. My family and I had a horrific experience here and want to prevent others from going through the same thing! We had a party of 10, hoping for a good night out with good food and company. That all went south when our food began to be served 15 - 20 minutes apart from each other. This meant that everyone had to eat and finish at different times! Some of this dishes were cold, others completely tasteless and burnt hard rice was served to us. Despite this, we continued to try and enjoy our night. UNTIL, 1 hour had passed and I had yet to receive my meal after the rest of my family had. I kindly approached a waitress to remind them. No eye contact or acknowledgment at all, just a simple “ok yeah” was the response I was given. Another 20 minutes passed and only then another waitress came up to me to ask what I was waiting for. I couldn’t understand as my order was clearly printed on the receipt! ANOTHER 30 minutes after this, the waitress hands me a refund for the meal i ordered but assures me they are making the order still. Keep in mind, by this all 9 of my family members have all eaten and had their dinner, except for me. We had now approached the 2 hour mark and had plans to move to a dessert spot after dinner which was closing soon. Every single time we approached someone, we were told “its coming”, “they’re cooking it now”, even when we eventually just wanted to leave and get out of there without the last meal! The staff were bluntly lying to us when we had asked if they had started cooking or not, since it had been 2 hours and 20 minutes waiting for one simple fried rice dish! OVER 2 HOURS FOR FRIED RICE! Absolutely shocking service and shocking food! They had completely ruined our night and hardly took any ownership for their lack in professionalism. Instead of making a forgotten order a priority, they pushed it to the back of the order log and went on about their day. No one wants a refund when it comes to dinner with their family! All we wanted was a good meal out! This will never be an experience forgotten, but for all the...
Read more3.5 stars Haven't been visited here for years. No buffet now. Live band every Friday evening. Venue: park at rear or street. A short cut from rear carpark to entrance. Dark and old style. Big TV Screen- broadcasting MTV. Causal setting. Most tables are very big and firm - good for gathering. A little bit packed. Some dishes are pre-cooked and displayed like buffet with 3 big rice cookers. Everyone can access to these easily. --- 7.3/10 Service: rather busy. The owner/cashier is nice. Tap water is provided upon request. A set of utensils wrapped by serviettes will be given when food served, but the serviette was not dry. Extra cutlery and seasonings is available on each table. --- 6.9/10 Beverage: wide selection. good value. Good portion. Not bland. Hot Teh Horlick / Milo ($4.9) are served in Mug. Sometimes small spoons will not be given for stirring. Teh Tarik with Ginger ($5.2, in mug) are really full of ginger flavour. --- 7.8/10 Food: wide selection of Malaysian/ southeastern food but not all are available. Normal portion. Price ok. Very casual presentation. Murtabak lamb Roti, $13.9: well stuffed with minced lamb, egg and chopped onion. Good portion. Only the sauce was enough for me. --- 7.3/10 Chicken Rice Hainanese Style, $13.9: served with Chili sauce. Good portion of chicken eith bone (albeit not very glossy or silky in texture). Rice and soup was good. Salad was just mainly cucumber and cabbage. --- 6.5/10 Oxtail Soup, $17.9: served with rice good portion of oxtail in the soup. Meat was very tender. Soup was good. --- 7.3/10 Set Rice with 1 dish ($12.9) or 2 dish ($15.9): There are 3 Rice options. Ordered Fish Curry Briyani. Rice was good. Papadum was crispy. Vegetable Pickles were just ok. Dhal was ok. Set rice was not bad except fish curry dish. Fish curry was just only 2 pcs of fish in normal size and 1 okra. But, one almost no meat (bone only, disappointed). It's not like the description of fish curry on menu -boneless. I accept fish containing bones, but inedible fish bone is not ok. Curry sauce wasn't so creamy. Lost the...

Stumbled into Makan² Café for a casual lunch and left feeling like I’d just discovered one of Vic Park’s hidden gems.
From the get-go, the staff were warm and genuinely welcoming—not the scripted kind of friendly, but the kind where you feel like a regular even if it’s your first visit.
The space? Chill, homely, and unpretentious. Wooden tables, relaxed vibes, and that kind of glow that makes you want to sit back and stay a while. As a bonus, there was live music playing while I ate—and not just background noise, but talented local singers who added soul and warmth to the whole experience.
Food-wise, it hit all the right notes: 🍤 Prawn crackers that were light, crunchy, and honestly addictive. 🥒 The rojak was a punchy mess of goodness—spicy, nutty, fresh, and layered with textures. 🥤 And the Teh Tarik? Silky, strong, and served in a classic mug that felt like a warm hug from an old friend.
And here’s the kicker: the menu is massive. Whether you’re after classic Malaysian staples, Western comfort food, or roti desserts with ice cream (yes, really), you’re spoiled for choice.
Only reason it’s not five stars? The wait was a little longer than expected—but with good food, live music, and a cozy atmosphere, it was easy to forgive.
Final word: If you’re in Perth and craving flavour, community vibes, and a side of music with your meal—Makan² Café is worth the visit.
