Cafe Chulo was absolutely phenomenal. We went to Myrtleford for a day trip out on a Sunday, and when we arrived, the Cafe was absolutely packed, so I would recommend definitely booking ahead if you can. The service was wonderful, and they managed to find us a seat nearly straight away. I had the smashed avo with chorizo. They had already ran out of smoked salmon by 11:45, so you know it is a popular place, so the earlier the better. We got our drinks first, and the wait was quite a while for the drinks and the food, but the scenery was beautiful enough, that we were quite complacent with waiting and having a chat. My boyfriend had a hot-chocolate which he said was amazing, and not too rich on the Chocolate. I had the house-brewed chai tea, which was my favourite part of the meal! The flavour was not too sweet, but still bursting with spices and hints of flavour. The best chai I have ever had, and definitely traditionally made. They do say to let 10 minutes for the brewing of the chai as well. The smashed avo with Chorizo was delicious, eggs were cooked perfectly, with a huge, generous serving of fresh, soft avocado and chorizo, which surprisingly complimented each other. There was enough feta to balance jt out, and all together with the soft, fresh sourdough, clearly from a local bakery, made this meal a joy to eat. My boyfriend had the chilli eggs, which I had a taste of, and again, eggs were cooked perfectly and bursting with chilli flavour. But be warned, it is spicy, but a pleasant and original change from so many other omelettes around the local area that, again, made it a joy to have. Overall, a tremendous experience on a very busy Sunday, so be prepared and plan ahead for a long wait if you come to...
Read moreSo, this is our second visit here, and I'd been holding out on reviewing because the first time I stopped by, I was in a rush and ordered a bacon and egg toastie. And to my surprise it was hands down the best egg and bacon toastie I'd ever had. This was no carelessly tossed together sandwich, but rather a thoughtfully assembled meal, with just the right amount of butter, smoky bacon, and beautifully accompanied by aromatic herbs. As I was enjoying this lovely toastie, I began to notice that all the staff were Sri Lankan, and there was a beautiful smell of curry wafting through the room. So my guess was, if they could make an egg and bacon toastie this good, surely their ethnic curry would be legendary!
Fast forward to today and here we are, and my hypothesis has been proved correct. We had a very beautiful lamb curry, cooked to tender perfection with just the right amount of spice, and the vegetable curry was chock full of flavor! My son enjoyed their chilli folded eggs, and my other two had eggs and soldiers.
One thing we noticed was that every detail on the plate is well thought out. Even the accompanying cherry tomatoes on my son's dish were a notable pleasure, they were coated in some kind of sweet herb vinigarette and we were all fighting over them!
And it's not right to review a cafe without speaking of the hot drinks, and yes the coffee here is fantastic. But if you have time, order one of their fresh brewed Chais. Again, easily the most flavourful Chai I've had the pleasure of drinking. I'll be having an iced latte for the drive back!
Thanks Cafe Chulo for such...

The flavors were rich and full of spices, making every bite a delightful adventure. The rice was perfectly cooked, fluffy, and served alongside a refreshing yogurt with diced beets, which added a nice contrast to the spices.
The chicken makhani was absolutely amazing—so flavorful and creamy, with just the right amount of heat. 🍛 The curry paired perfectly with the rice, creating a comforting and satisfying dish. And let’s not forget the pickles! They added an extra zing that really elevated the meal.
To top it all off, I enjoyed some Nepali 🇳🇵 tea, which was the perfect complement to the meal. The unique blend of spices in the tea brought warmth and richness that rounded out the experience beautifully. Honestly, I'm so sick for spicy Nepali or Indian food right now! If you’re a fan of bold flavors and delicious spices, I really recommend trying this out. It’s a meal that will definitely leave you craving...
