The first time I went to Zoo with a friend who is a local, we just had coffee. The coffee was very good and the waiter was a happy friendly person. We then returned a few weeks ago when I visited Drysdale to have breakfast. When we arrived we were asked if we had a booking-the greeting by a person who my friend said was the owner, was average-no warmth in it. We didn't have a booking, however were given a table as most were not occupied at that time. We were not told that we had to order at the counter. If there is a notice on the menu we did not see it. As we were greeted when arriving, we did not get close to the counter so if there was a sign there. Eventually, after waiting for nearly 15 minutes my friend had to get up and ask for service only to be told we had to order at the counter. I ordered the vegetarian breakfast, without the eggs. I asked for a grilled tomato to replace the two eggs, for which I was then charged extra. The vegetarian sausages were very overcooked and very dry. My toast was soggy because the mushrooms and I think spinach was on the top and all the juices had saturated it. The tomato was ok but not good value for the extra money considering I saved them two eggs! my friend's breakfast was nice, but small for the money, compared to what is served elsewhere for less. I was dissapointed and so was my friend. We left wothout ordering the coffee we had planned and bought it elsewhere. Irt is sad to have to provide such feedback, but when I am charged more than enough money for the food, I expect it to be excellent and the service top...
Read moreI've been visiting the cafe Zoo for nearly 15 years, however I haven't been in since covid hit. I went in today and nothing has changed. It's still an outstanding cafe. This place is so cosy. It was a very cold morning but inside was warm as toast from their fire place. Its a very historic place, Im thinking art deco. Between the beautiful historic atmosphere, the lovely staff and how Mark runs the Zoo cafe it has a great ambience. Mark owns the place and he does an outstanding job running the Zoo cafe. The coffee is awesome to say the least and the menu extensive and extremely tasty. They can cater for large groups and have plenty of cosy seats for 1 and up. They also have great outdoor seating and plenty of it. The Zoo cafe is a must do if your in the area visiting and looking for a great breakfast or lunch. I don't need to tell the locals. We know how good the Zoo cafe is. Definitely worth every...
Read moreHaving driven by The Cafe Zoo on numerous occasions, & promising to stop & have a meal, we finally made good on the promise this morning. Stopped in for breakfast. Would highly recommend this cafe. The 'Mrs. Benedict' & 'Big Zoo Breakfast' were excellent. Menu prices quite reasonable. Staff were welcoming. Service prompt. Easily accessible to anyone with mobility issues. There are three seating options. Indoors, outside under cover & in the garden. Children are welcome, & there is a children's menu available. First day of school holidays, so a few grandparents treating grandchildren today. Even though the cafe is on the main road, it wasn't noisy. We parked on the street, almost directly out front. There doesn't appear to be any private parking for the cafe. Parking could be an issue when holiday makers are about. Checked the lunch menu, & plan on returning to try the...
