Java Spice — Restaurant in Victoria

June 2023 Back with my team of shuttles from Melb and what an amazing night we had of good food, lovely drinks, fun & laughter. JS is a lovely lovely restaurant for special occasions and big or small groups.

Service was fantastic as always and the ambience made us feel we were in Thailand or Bali or Malaysia.

Great food, beautifully mannered staff and servers, amazing decor and ambience. Lovely place to go for special occasions or even simple meal. Food prices are above average but they were well worth every cent. Quite a number of Malaysian and Indonesian staff who were well trained, delightfully mannered, courteous, obliging and helpful. Food was presented well and tasted absolutely tongue smacking! Yummm!! Flavours were delightful. Loved my Bangkok chilli chicken and Calamari in orange sauce.

They have variety of alcohol selection including cocktails and mock-tails. Close your eyes and poke the page. You cannot go wrong. Nice desserts selection too.

You're instantly taken back when strolling through the forest of Thailand/Bali when you first steep foot into this restaurant!

Their hospitality is second to none and each staff member gave us a bright smile.

Here's my feedback on the food..

The Thai Chicken skewers were succulent and accompanied by a delicious, rich and thick peanut satay sauce.

Ginger Prawn dumplings weren't as favourable, they lacked that ginger kick and the dumpling wrappers were slightly underdone.

Massaman Curry with Beef was absolutely appetizing. Very succulent cooked strips of beef all immersed in a flavourful massaman curry with a nice kick of spice!

The coconut rice was another dish that just didn't quite hit the mark. Whilst the texture of the rice was right, it was lacking that coconutty palate.

An overall satisfying experience and I must include that whilst it was quite busy and surprisingly the food didn't take too long to come out.

Java Spice exceeded our expectations. It had come highly recommended from our accommodation provider but other locals in Swan Hill also spoke highly of it. Staff were exemplary. We booked an outdoor table but on arrival thought maybe inside would be better. There were no tables left inside and staff were so apologetic (not their fault but they still owned our concerns). As soon as an indoor table was available it was offered to us although by that stage we realised outside wasn't as cold as expected. Now for the food. We recommend if you haven't been before trust the chef's recommendations on the menu. Selection is broad though with something for all tastes. Gluten free/vegan/vegetarian will all find a good range of choices - not just a token dish or two. It is clear that the menu is constructed by people with a passion for good food.
