Edit: Most recent review My partner and I came here for the chefs menu again and got served nothing but left overs. It was just black pepper and chili on different vegetables over and over again. They served real food/meats at the end, they asked us first if we want the curry chicken at the end. We said we're full but can get it for takeaway. They never served the curry chicken. So we left thst night extremely disappointed, eating the same black peper covered food is not worth $75 each. We're no longer returning to Malayan Orchid for date nights. --- Review 2 yrs ago: Just spent our 3rd anniversary date here. We ordered the banquet for $68 per person and a bottle of wine. It was totally worth it! We absolutely loved every single meal that came out. Andrew the chef did an amazing job! My favorite was the crab on top of curry sauce. My partner loved the dumplings. The ramen and the meat in it was so perfectly cooked. Loved the variety in the dessert. All the staff were super nice and accommodating. Tammy provided excellent customer service. Highly recommend and will definitely have dinner here again! Cheers

FALSE ADVERTISING - Despite the restaurant website stating that they allow BYO - they do not (due to COVID, apparently. I could find no current evidence on the VIC Govt. website to support this). The menu on the website (the reason we booked) is incorrect. Again, due to COVID they have minimised their menu, however, the website has not been updated accordingly. I have attached an up-to-date copy of the menu. The hostess was dismissive and rude when advised of the incorrect information on the website. Food was terrible. Green curry chicken and spice roast pork was so sweet that it was inedible. The Thai basil chilli beef was extremely bland and contained no Thai basil. The crystal prawns were the only highlight. Despite our feedback on the abysmal food - they offered no apology. Avoid. Terrible food.

I have eaten here a few times now and it never disappoints! The revamped interior makes for a cozy atmosphere. The new menu has a wider range of delicious dishes and should keep every punter happy. We phoned ahead with our booking to alert the kitchen of dietary requirements and they were amazing at accommodating our needs. The service was excellent - attentive but not intrusive - and the hostess checked in to make sure everything was going well. Our meals were fantastic! We made a range of selections and shared amongst our group of four using the lazy Susan on the round table we snagged with our booking. The variety of meals, the quality of produce, the simple, elegant presentation was all excellent. Thanks for another beautiful night out!

We were so dissapointed when we had our take away order from the Malayan Orchid. We have ordered Beef in Black bean sauce and Sweet and Sour Pork, sadly when I got to pick up our order a nice young guy told me that thery don't have pork so he said I can just replace it it with somethinelse, so maybe Honey Chicken, I just thought it woould be cheaper. But then I was not conviced myself for the Honey Chicken and I wanted to just choose other thing instead, but a lady with a very heavy make up came out and just said all sorted. And I thought it was my Sweet and Sour Pork, but it is not. Still they charged me for the price of Pork. The Beef in Black bean sauce was so tasteless but the variety of vegetable in it was good. The Honey Chichen was so dry. It was a bad experience for us. We loved the old Malayan Orchid before Covid, and the food was nicer though. Because we are just two sharing the meal, we use of ordering food form different restaurant in Bendigo and we give feedback Handfull Malaysian Chinese Restaurant and Take Away shops in Bendigo are really good when it comes to taste and quality of their food but the dining atmosphere are really behind compared to Malayan Orchids. We...

Have been before and the food was delicious. However, this time the service was atrocious. We booked for 2 at 6pm and advised we were going to a show at 7:30. When we arrived, the waitress couldn't find our booking but then it appeared after much back and forth. By 6:30 no one had asked for our order so we waved down a waitress and we were told she could 'only' take drinks and will get someone else. We waited and waited and then finally ordered at 6:40. The waiter asked if we had a 'time' we needed to leave, we said 7:10 due to the show, he said no problem. At 7 still no food so we waved down a waitress who said she'll check. One main arrived at 7:05. The second at 7:10. We scoffed our food so fast and asked for takeaway containers. The waiter disappeared for ages and then came back with one small container for two people! We basically packed our food, wrapped our roti in the napkin and made a dash. I went to pay and the cashier looked grumpy, no smile and no apology for the long wait even though I mentioned it. Lots of confused and unhappy people waiting for takeaway. A gentleman outside saw me dash out and said he was seething. Absolutely no apologies from any...

Visited Malayan Orchid twice last week while working in Bendigo. It was during the Elvis show on at the Art Gallery, so it was almost impossible to get a table anywhere on View Street. First time I came in around 8.30PM and I was just able to get a table without a booking. The (new?) front of house manager was fantastic and very hospitable as was Pam when I last visited pre covid. Both food and drink service has improved since a few years back, less fussy, quicker, simpler menu etc. The wine list features some great drops like the Mandurang Merlot at just $8 a glass. Bress Chardonnay is also superb and very much 'underpriced'. Premium wines at 'house wine' prices, have seen this for $12 a glass not far from there. The Beef Rendang portion was huge, a significant amount of beef considering this is rendered down over many hours. Small fried rice small portion also very generous. Staff were all excellent especially under pressure. Thanks to the young man working the front counter who called me when a table was available as I didn't have a booking a few nights later. Delicious food. Bookings probably essential for the...
