Beautiful shady park- great events held here. My adult kids & also now my grandson love this park. Lots room for picnics bbq enjoy markets & Easter festival events often free attractions. There are huge beautiful shady trees lots open grass areas, a Fernery type garden but nost of all we love feeding pissums here at night. A court worker told me about this park & the possums 26 yrs ago when I was going thru horrible custody issues with a very violent ex-partner. It was so nice to b able to walk round back of Law Courts when court in recess to just relax in nature & re-gain composure before next part of court hearing. Also was great for meeting people & to just enjoy natures beauty in what has become our family home town. I have told lots people- many Bendigo residents about feeding possums with kids here who had no idea they were there. Many who doubted us only to visit & enjoy & then thank us for alerting them to such a lovely experience they could also share with their loved ones & friends. This park should be Heritahe Listed I think & kept as is for...
Read moreOk it's just as good as it is bad. The bad 1st...there is a large connelly of Fruit Bats that although not native have taken up residence & the stink (total stench) is unbearable. On top of that is the smell of surrige coming from the Bendigo river which is little more than a trickle down the cobblestone. It all depends on the time of day, time of year, wind strength, direction & the temperature on the day/day's. Yes day's because it can stink for day's in a row. All very off putting for a family, single food stop or romantic walk. Heck even a casual walk can be sickly sweet stench. Which is all a gr8 shame as the park is actually quite beautiful. The grounds are well maintained. Plants well looked after & some seasonally changed garden beds keep it look spectacular. Why the local council don't do anything to remove the bats & address the smell from the river is really sad. So if your looking for a very well kept very smelly park look no further than...
Read moreI love the fact that Rosalind Park is playing a direct physical role in the conservation of a species of flying fox that has declined by over 95% since 1900. It pollinates 1000 species of native trees and has only one bub per year if they're lucky. Many die entangled in unsafe backyard fruit tree netting (safe nets have small holes you can't put fingers through) or are killed by barbed wire they can't see at night. Some scientists think the grey headed flying fox will be extinct in the wild by 2015. And, the bat camp smell is not from poo it is from a scent gland, a kind of bat lynx effect the boys use to attract lady bats... I rather like the musky smell of bat camps. Well done Bendigo and Parks Vic for helping these ancient species survive and for your empathy and understanding. I usually bring four or five groups of people up from Melbourne each year to Bendigo for lunch, shopping and to...
