As a local I am proud of our magnificent, awe-inspiring and home of the faithful, Sacred Heart Cathedral, Catholic Church..As a faithful servant of our Lord, Jesus Christ..It is always a pleasure to come home to talk with my Lord. As soon as i have crossed myself with the Holy Water..I feel in-tune with Him and the Saints that serve Him.
Bendigo was chosen not by mere mortals, but Our Lord and Saviour Himself. The story is old and not many heathens would be entrusted with it. As time has gone by and the Catholic Church has had to move with the times, it is now deemed Christian to tell the Heathens about the Sacred Heart Cathedral and how we were so Blessed to have it in our mist. The tale is engraved into marble on the Cardinal Sacred Bench.

Read moreI went to visit the Cathedral on a Sunday afternoon at 5pm, the Cathedral was closed not opened until Wednesday. It was opened from 12-2pm on Sunday. In my life my mother raised me to believe the Catholic Church would take care of its people, for me now the number of ties I go to visit a church, even in my home town and in Sydney- the church is closed. This has not been my experience for over `10 years, so disappointing. I feel the Roman Catholic church has lost sight of its foundations- its people and values it material assets. A beautiful building that no one gets to enjoy unless they are lucky enough to be there on one of the few occasions its opened! Hope the Bishop enjoys his seat- he can enjoy without being bothered by the people he is meant...
Read moreAn amazing feat of gothic revival architecture and the centre of the Sandhurst Diocese.
The interior is expansive and a sight to behold with the glass and and marble architecture, there is visitor information on hand about the history of the Cathedral with donations encouraged. Mass is held at 8:30am and 11:00am on Sundays (with a 6pm service also held during Daylight Savings) and at 8:00am Wednesdays and Fridays.
The exterior grounds of the Cathedral include The Grotto which includes a small garden and various memorial plates in memory of Church members and Bendigo residents who have passed away, a patch of the garden is the final resting place of my Grandparents Ann-Marie Lean (1941-2000) and Henry Francis "Frank" Lean (1938-2021) whose ashes were scattered amongst the beautiful roses.
