My husband & I have been to Peasant twice now - once for my birthday in February & once for our Wedding Anniversary in April. Definitely special occasion territory on our budgets, but worth every cent. Food has been excellent - taste, presentation & quantity. And they are very good at catering for allergies and specific dislikes. I liked the February menu slightly more than the April one, but both were lovely. We certainly come away pleasantly replete. Wine list is an interesting mix of Australian & overseas wines and Dan, the owner is happy to talk about & recommend relevant wines for each course or a bottle for the meal. Service by the young staff is friendly and proficient. Tables are spaced very nicely so you feel like you are in your own bubble. Read moreWow what a dining experience this restaurant is. What a game changer in Ballarat! Peasant was extremely accommodating in hosting our large dining event. We couldn’t be happier with the food, the atmosphere, the staff, the service, the plates, the glasses, the chairs ….and on and on. Dan , Doug and their staff members were absolutely amazing. The knowledge and experience they all have really shined on the night and the food was something out of this world. The menu was exciting right from the beginning as was the complexity of each dish. Dans seamless front of house skills and Doug’s culinary expertise were only just part of the highlight of the evening. I would highly recommend these guys to anyone wanting that touch of class and quality in a dining experience. Congratulations to you guys. About time Ballarat had something quite special.

Read moreA great business concept of honest and sustainable food with a single 5 course dégustation menu offer in a very charming and tastefully appointed old building. The food follows through with their peasant concept (explained online) and offers tastefully and well executed dishes. A sensational Deep fried brawn (yes brawn) course followed by exquisite pate dish. A saddle of lamb was the main course (haven’t seen this cut in decades ) and variation of lemons for desserts. A couple of minor points to justify 4 stars on food: the crispy chicken skin with the pate was soft, and the lemon sorbet was overly acidic. Overall this is a sensational experience which I would go back to. Great wine list too boot with great local offerings like tomboy hill...
