An unfortunate first experience of this newly opened bar. We’d booked online for dinner and confirmed when requested, but when we arrived we were told the only “table” available to us was a wine barrel inside the window facing Grand Prom with the hot afternoon sun beating in and no ability to protect from heat or glare. We asked for an alternative and were told by a flustered hostess that they were fully booked so the only remaining table was another high table (better to eat at but even more in direct path of hot sun). I mentioned that we weren’t given an option which table to book, but as locals we know how brutal the summer sun is facing that direction and would have definitely requested an inner table towards rear if we’d known we could. She just kept saying there was nothing she could do because they were fully booked. My partner wanted to leave immediately at this point, and when she heard that, she told us we could sit at another normal dining table away from the sun. We have no idea why she’d been so insistent there was nothing else available until she heard him say he wanted to cancel booking and leave, then miraculously another couple of tables were an option! We sat and ordered margaritas - they were good - as well as the arancini and another chorizo dish as starters while we contemplated the menu. The dishes came out and were unfortunately totally underwhelming. They badly needed seasoning, were very small and the chorizo dish was served on a cold piece of soggy bread. Definitely not worth the money. The menu didn’t have any main sized dishes apart from mussels and gnocchi hat we could see. Not particularly wanting either of these and already feeling disappointed with the whole experience, we elected to pay the bill and leave. We ended up getting fish and chips next door which was totally...
Read moreNow, in Bedford we are lucky enough to have Django's Wine Bar, and a better one would be hard to find. I am cautious to post my review as I do not want to find that I cannot get a table or a stool ... the food, wine and venue is just so good. My two besties and I went to enjoy an early dinner and catch up for my birthday and boy were we so pleased we did. The FOOD! OMG. First up we started with Django's Bruschetta, which started out life here as the Daily Special, but by the time we left I am sure this is going to get to stay regularly it is just so delectable, and one of my mates wished they had ordered an extra serve. Next up, because we do not all have the time or talent to make an awesome Paella, we were not left disappointed at all, the Seafood Paella was filled with deliciousness, a generous serving and the flavours were all there. We paired it with the 'totara' Sav Blanc (from Malborough, NZ where one of my mates comes from), which worked a treat with the Spanish flavours we were enjoying. Finally, Fiona (who envisioned, built and owns this wonderful venue) totally spoiled me with their Trio of Spoons, a delight of three spoons of morishness, a Cassata, Raspberry Milk Chocolate Mousse and Marscarpone Swirl. Django's is now our designated monthly catch up space. What a delight and we three are fortunate that Django's is only a short 5 minute walk from my home. The spare room needs another bed so we can all enjoy the width and breadth of the wine selections with the amazing food option and have somewhere to roll home to afterward. Make a date and book a table, you will not be disappointed at all. Sometimes, there can be live music, which just adds to the ambience. The staff were all wonderful and we were given the right amount of timing between courses and...
Read moreWe had the most incredible time at Django – honestly one of Perth’s gems. It’s a family-owned spot and you can feel the love and care from the moment you walk in. Fiona is an absolute delight, always taking the time to check in on every table, and Dillon’s cocktails are next level (and that’s coming from someone who’s tried more than a fair share across Perth).
We worked our way through a few cocktails and every single one was a standout. The Clarified Margarita with grapefruit and lime was so smooth and perfectly balanced – I went for the spicy option and it was divine. Dillon’s Espresso Martini is hands-down one of the best in town, with a hint of chocolate and orange that makes it unforgettable. The Paloma with goji berry and coriander seed infused tequila was fresh, bright, and came with a fun paloma jelly shot slice. And the Banana Old Fashioned – buttery, rich, and clever without being over the top.
The food was just as impressive. The freshly shucked oysters with champagne granita and red pepper berries were a perfect start. The burrata with stone fruit and honey was creamy and dreamy, while the corn ribs with lime aioli, parmesan and paprika were seriously addictive – the kind of dish you could order again straight away.
Django is one of those rare places that nails both food and drinks, but what makes it even more special is the people behind it. You don’t just leave full and happy, you leave feeling like you’ve been looked after by friends.
