Satisfaction with Room for Refinement
As a dedicated lover of fish and chips and someone who has enjoyed visiting Quinns Fish and Chip Shop multiple times, I feel compelled to share my thoughts on the establishment. Over time, I have seen changes in ownership and the consequential shifts in quality, service, and overall experience. While I am largely satisfied with my visits and the improvements made, I do believe there is still some room for fine-tuning certain aspects of the operation. However, I want to acknowledge that the progress under new ownership has not gone unnoticed, and I appreciate the commitment to bettering the customer experience.
One of the most notable improvements I have observed is the quality of the curry sauce. Previously, the sauce had a distinct taste of the powder mix, which often suggested that it had not been cooked thoroughly. This left an aftertaste that was less than desirable and slightly detracted from the overall meal. However, on my most recent visit, I was pleased to find that this issue had been addressed. The sauce no longer had that raw powdery taste, which significantly enhanced my dining experience. This small but crucial improvement has made a positive impact, and I commend the staff for their attention to detail in refining the recipe.
Another element that keeps me coming back to Quinns is the generous portion sizes. A good fish and chip shop should always ensure that customers feel they are getting value for money, and Quinns has generally excelled in this regard. However, I must stress the importance of maintaining consistency. While my own experiences with portion sizes have been satisfying, I have heard from friends that their portions have not always been as generous. Ensuring that every customer receives a fair and equal portion will help solidify Quinns’ reputation as a reliable go-to spot for fish and chips.
A defining characteristic of exceptional fish and chips is the batter. The perfect batter should be light, crispy, and golden, providing a delightful contrast to the soft, flaky fish inside. While Quinns has performed well in this area, I believe that maintaining a consistently crispy batter across all battered items will help elevate the establishment above its competitors. There have been occasions where I found the batter to be a little too soft or lacking the crunch that makes fish and chips truly satisfying. Keeping a close eye on frying times and batter preparation can make all the difference in ensuring a consistently high standard.
One of the few criticisms I have is the use of microwaves to heat food. As someone with an Irish background, I am deeply familiar with the chipper culture, and I understand the balance between minimising waste and maintaining quality. However, when an item comes out of the kitchen unnaturally hot and clearly microwaved, it detracts from the experience. Customers can tell when their food has been reheated this way, and it can sometimes affect the texture and taste. While I understand that certain circumstances may call for the use of a microwave, I strongly encourage Quinns to consider implementing a better system to ensure all food is served fresh without relying on microwaves. Perhaps alternative methods such as keeping items warm in heated displays could be explored to maintain the integrity of the food while reducing waste.
Despite the minor areas for improvement, I remain a satisfied customer of Quinns Fish and Chip Shop. The changes made under new ownership have had a positive impact, and I appreciate the effort put into refining the quality of food and service. The improvement in curry sauce was a particularly welcome change, and I am pleased to see attention being paid to customer feedback. With continued focus on consistency in portion sizes, batter quality, and a move away from microwave use, Quinns has the potential to become an even stronger establishment.
I will certainly continue to visit Quinns and recommend it to others who are looking for a satisfying fish and...
Read moreReally not happy with this. As someone who knows Australian fish, and works in the industry, I am extremely appalled that I was lied to when placing my order. I asked what fish they had and the girl on the phone was lovely and said spanish mackerall, shark, hake, red emperor and barramundi. I then asked where the Spanish Mackerall came from and she said she would check and was told it was from Australia. Now, a lot of other fish and chip places have said their spanish mackerall is Australian, however I have almost never received the correct fish. I asked if it came from the Kimberly region as that is where Western Australian Spanish Mackerall comes from. Upon receiving the fish, instantly I knew we were lied to. Australia Spanish Mackerall can only be cut in a specific way because of the shape of the fish, which is large fillets that look like chicken breast. The fish is also very white and the texture is that similar to of chicken. This fish was cut half the size and was too long to be an Australian Spanish Mackerall. The flavour was nowhere near what a Spanish should taste like, and I can only assume it was a Hake. Spanish Mackerall also does not have silver veins when fresh, fried, grilled or crumbed, and this fish did. It is ok for the fish to not be Australian Spanish Mackerall, but if I have asked specifically where it has come from and then lied to, I then have a problem. Not happy that I paid $13 for a fillet which was most likely a Hake, and Hake fillets are usually around $9 or $10, could be more up to $11. As most people do not know their fish well enought to distinguish if it is truly the correct one, I think it is disgusting that a business can take...
Read moreVery disappointed in the service. I ordered online yesterday at 4:30pm for a 6:30pm pickup however it was almost 8:30pm by the time my order was ready. There seemed to be no structure or organisation in the way that the orders were being prepared and some people who walked in and ordered on the spot were receiving their meal long before people who had pre-ordered earlier. The man standing next to me had ordered online the day before for a pickup last night and his order was still not ready. On a previous occasion I ordered online and when I went to pick up my meal they had lost the order and I had to get my phone out to prove to them that I had in fact placed an order. After some time last night I realised that whenever a customer requested a refund as they had waited too long the staff would just say "Okay we will make yours now", and then that customer got put ahead of everybody else, so I just did the same and finally got my order ( almost 2 hours late and 4 hours after placing the order). I ordered online, even though their is an extra charge passed on , only as I felt that it would save time, however there doesn't seem to...
