Read moreStarted out great as a catch up with friends ended up being a terrible night, the bar had a hand full of people was very quiet so no excuse for the bad service we had. The app didn't work had the manager come out and was mid conversation with him about the payment coming out twice and he walked away. Ended up getting refunded. Ordered at the bar and they forgot food for our table. The kitchen didn't bring food out, we had to go up and follow up for them to tell us they didnt put it on the docket or they forgot. Sirloin steak was dry, the salad had rubbery old pieces of cucumber, onion rings and chips were very heavy on the salt and tasted old. The gravy that came with the steak was a stock cube put in water with a few peppercorns at the bottom was completely inedible. And somehow you have to pay an extra $3 for sauce and its an extra $10 for anything you want on top of the steak. Chicken was very dry. Fish tacos had an entire taco full of lettuce and a tiny piece of fish, friend had the same he pulled several bones out, drinks tasted watered down. Went and told them they gave me the wrong drink as butterfly pea gin is purple my drink was clear and they told me I had ordered the right thing and thst the berries are giving it colour, I drink this at home and it come out purple, if you dont have something, better to let the customer know rather then getting told im wrong. A few had ordered vodka every drink that came out for her had a different taste even when ordering the same thing Overall bad experience with the new ownership there, trying to cut corners with things and the bar men not having any understanding of what they are doing at the bar and not knowing what were asking or talking about. The girls that worked that night were very understanding and kind to us about the situation but that was only good experience we had with the staff. Wouldn't waste your money like we did, the group we were with all agreed that walking across to the eaton tavern was the best decision...
Read moreA deeply disappointing experience with Smalls Bar both in quality of food and in professionalism.
I ordered the pork belly, which was advertised as coming with mash and seasonal vegetables. What arrived, however, was a meagre smear of mash completely drowned in gravy, and no vegetables whatsoever neither the carrots nor broccoli listed. Alongside this, I had ordered a children’s Hawaiian pizza. To call it undercooked would be generous: the base was raw, the tomato paste had a harsh, uneatable acidity, and the cheese was scarcely melted.
Attempting to give the venue an opportunity to correct the situation, I placed a second order with a note addressed to the manager. Rather than respond appropriately, the order was cancelled without acknowledgement, apology, or explanation. This left me without dinner late at night, despite the restaurant still showing as open and actively accepting orders. Adding insult to injury, I then waited five days before my refund was finally processed.
This was not a matter of personal taste it was a failure on every front: execution of dishes, accuracy of advertised menu items, basic customer service, and professional accountability. I cannot in good conscience recommend Smalls Bar, and I would strongly advise others to avoid the same...
