ABSOLUTELY RUDEST AND MOST INAPPROPRIATELY BEHAVED BAR STAFF I HAVE EVER SEEN. Having spent the evening dining at the Beaufort we went to the "hidden bar" this evening for a nightcap before heading home. I ordered two "French Martinis" (not knowing what they were ) for my wife and friend. The bar waitress made the drinks and put them on the bar so I tried one to see what they were like (pretty good I must admit) before I paid and was met with a tirade about trying the drink before paying. Well did I commit some sort of unwritten crime? Ive been going to bars for 40 years and never seen this sort of "bartender outrage". My plan was to see if the drink was to my satisfaction because I planned to purchase one for myself. I quite liked it but was disallowed to purchase another, simply because of my transgression! I enquired as to what the issue was and was told that my behaviour was inappropriate (ie trying the drink that I fully intended to and subsequently did pay for). How many people order drinks whilst leaning at the bar then run off without paying??. I think the staff at the Beaufort (well this lady in particular) has some sort of issue with engaging customers and needs some retraining. I have never seen such aggressive, inappropriate and outrageous overreaction from someone pouring a drink for a customer. Who exactly does she think she is? From my perspective it placed a rather negative spin on the whole evening and my friends agreed that her behaviour was unwarranted, unwelcome and completely disrespectful.. If this is the sort of negative advertisement the Beaufort is seeking (which I doubt) they should take a look at the bar video and see what actually occurred. I will be making sure all my friends avoid such a unwelcoming and frankly histrionic staff. Im sorry the staff member may have had a "bad day" but there is no excuse for berating patrons for what to me seems like an innocent sampling of a drink I was planning to and indeed purchased-Oh what a crime!!. I ask how many times do patrons take a sip of a beer whilst the others are being poured, simply because they are thirsty? If bar staff got upset about that they would be out of business. Insulting and a very poor reflection on the Beaufort. Shame on you. Pick up your game.
Post script. Management have been quite responsive and apologetic about the incident so points for...
ย ย ย Read moreWas really excited to visit for the first time after looking at the menu and confirming that there were plenty of GF options. Visited with our family and 4 coeliacs and upon ordering was told that 4/5 of our GF selections could not be done as they were not suitable for Coeliacs (anything that was fried and also the pizzas).
We were disappointed but moved on (as we do regularly as coeliac diners) and we expressed our disappointment that they really shouldn't categorise GF if it isn't OK for Coeliacs (kind of false advertising), and also in a commercial kitchen of its size it would be a great improvement for the kitchen to have 1 of their Fryers as a GF fryer. Was then rudely told by the waitstaff that "Coeliac and GF isn't the same thing", which made everyone in our party uncomfortable as this was not only a rude comment but also very judgmental and out of line to something that is a medical requirement for people and not just a "preference". GF preferences in diet wouldn't even exist or be known about without Coeliacs!
Food that we ordered in the end was OK, but staff involved with our food made us feel very judged, and the whole experience was quite unpleasant. We ended up not enjoying our food or experience, had all the coeliacs at our table not quite sure if we could trust whether we would be sick or not by continuing to eat, including our 10 year old who gets quite anxious and was in tears and crying for most of her meal worried that her food would make her sick.
It really isn't that complicated for commercial kitchens to provide safe and reliable coeliac appropriate options for people with a medical condition (a really easy adjustment is to have 1 fryer GF only - as I'm sure a venue of this size has more than 1 chip fryer in their kitchen).
Judgemental, flippant and rude comments made by waitstaff to customers to the point we all feel uncomfortable, are not OK.
And finally don't advertise GF food if it isn't really OK for ALL people that require a GF diet. (the fine print on the bottom of the menu to tell the staff you are coeliac is a waste of time and this would have been better to read "all GF food is not suitable for coeliacs" and then we wouldn't have wasted our time or our money to visit you in the first place!)
Overall a really disappointing experience and would not recommend for...

I went out with friends on a Saturday night expecting a fun evening. Instead, I ended up in the emergency department until the next morning, after being hit in the face by a glass that someone threw into the crowd on the dance floor.
The glass smashed into my mouth, causing a split upper lip, a chipped tooth, and required hospital treatment, dental treatment, time off work, and left me with ongoing trauma.
Whatโs worse? Venue management. No follow-up, no concern, no accountability. Didn't seem to care. This could have easily been prevented.
I will never return to The Beaufort, and I strongly urge others to reconsider attending until serious changes are made.
Do better. Protect your patrons.
Yes, this incident occurred back in April; however, I strongly believe it is important that people are made aware of what happened that night at your venue and the way you carelessly handled my situation.
While I acknowledge that I was provided with first aid assistance at the time, that was the bare minimum and the least that could have been done, and the protocol of what should be done when a situation like this occurs โ I nearly got knocked out from a glass drink that occurred on your premises!
And since April, when my incident occurred, have there been any glassware changes made? Clearly not, as you mentioned you are only now reviewing your glassware policies in response to my Google review.
This policy should have been revised at the time of the incident, which proves my point, showing a lack of care and no urgency in removing glass from your venue to ensure a safer environment.
IT BUFFLES ME, that you believed I was satisfied with the duty of care that was offered; you clearly missed the memo! As I later requested a meeting with management to talk about my incident, BUT my request was DENIED.
Just goes to show how much care there really was โ not a lot!
And yes, it was months ago, but that doesn't change anything or what happened! The trauma remains for not only myself, but also my friends who were with me on that night.
