20260718 This was an old favourite when it was Asian Cuisine. As Acituation it is still run by the old couple who dish out authentic food without MSG, unless you order something with oyster sauce.
We had the chai tau key and Singapore fried mai fun. I had asked my friend to bring a TA box but it was so yummy, I scoffed the plate 😁. The flavours and variety of ingredients kept the dish interesting all the way through. My friend also had the soya milk which was sipped through the night.
Previously I had the CKT and also bought the whole sambal fish which saves the hassle of deep-frying and sambal prep. This does vary according to fleshiness of the fish for both the small and large sizes, but the sambal is amazing!
It closed around 9 which wasn't as early as some other places so we were able to chat before leaving. It was freezing outside, heading down to 4C, but we were warm inside despite sitting close to the door.
The service was warm and felt intimate, like we'd been frequenting of late. The old couple no longer remember me but I'm sure to be a regular again as nice food without MSG is rare as more snd more older eateries are scooped up by newer business migrants who seem to deliver larger portions without the...
Read moreFood was surely below average compared to other Asian eateries around. Ordered mee goreng, mee hoon goreng, popiah, carrot cake, teh tarik and chendol. Salty and mushy carrot cake. Bland noodles. Very sweet tea. Chendol was almost a coconut drink. For someone who has grown eating Asian food, any departure from the authentic is obvious.
Also, orders not followed, sadly. Waited for carrot cake - dine in but was packed as a take away. Had to ask for the chendol after waiting for some time. By then we had eaten the food. It was then that someone brought in the green fillings for the chendol from elsewhere, possibly from the neighbouring Bamboo restaurant. Requested for tea without sugar, with evaporated milk. But served with sugar syrup. Had to ask for it to be replaced. Such was the service.
So, not a pleasant experience and surely not worth the money. Unfortunately, it was the only restaurant open at that time. I would rather go with instant noodles if I am hungry when left with no other choice. Hope Acituation improves from reviewing...
Read moreSo we've been to this place a couple of times. The first time, the food was ok. However, there are dishes that you probably shouldn't order here unless it's what you actually want.
The mee pok is actually BBQ pork wanton noodles. So that was disappointing. The char kuay teow is also a bit average. It was missing the smokiness of the flat noodles and they were a light on the prawns too(I got like 2 prawns in what appeared to be a large serving). There are places that do this dish way better.
The food took a while to come out too. The food is pretty average.
It's a shame thou, this place could be amazingly great. I think I'll be going...
