Having lived in the US (California and Colorado) for almost 20 years, and spent time in Mexico, I can say unequivocally that this is by far the BEST Mexican restaurant I have experienced in Australia. EVER. The locals know it, too: It was a Thursday night and the restaurant was packed. Salsa and corn chips were complementary on arrival (which is standard in “real” Mexican restaurants). The salsa was amazing — transported me to Central America.
Everything we ordered was exceptional. We were completely blown away. At the end of the meal, I said: “Let’s move to Woodend.” We ordered an entree of corn on the cob and for mains we had the Trio Stooges (enchilada, nachos and taco) and the Mexican plate (enchilada, flautos, taco, with rice & beans). For drinks, we ordered sangria and fakeritas. Our favourite item of the evening was the enchiladas, which were exceptional. The service was great, too. Very attentive and cheerful staff and the food came quickly despite the full restaurant. Prices were good, too. A truly memorable dining experience. Muchas gracias,...
Read moreWe had a disappointing experience at Las Margaritas Woodend recently. We came in with our young son and went to put his high chair where it would be comfortable for us. Unfortunately, the staff refused, saying there wasn’t enough space for foot traffic behind him and he had to be in a corner wall.
While I understand the need to maintain clear walkways, the way it was handled felt rigid and lacking in empathy. There was no effort to find a compromise or offer an alternative that worked for our family. It felt like our child’s comfort and safety were treated as an inconvenience plus we were advised when we had 30 mins left and then 10, yet the booking never mentioned 2hr time slots per booking.
We ended up feeling unwelcome and frustrated before we even ordered plus this was where is chosen to have my birthday dinner.
It’s a shame, because we were looking forward to trying the food, but the lack of flexibility and empathy from the staff really soured the experience. I hope they reconsider how they handle families with young children...
Read moreWent here after locals night with a group. My partner and myself had a drink each and a meal, totaling $78 value. Everyone else at the table ordered similar.
When the bill came it was split 5 ways and we were charged $125.18 for 2 people.
When we realized how much we paid, we went back into the restaurant requesting to see the receipt. The owner refused to show us the receipt and screamed at us.
I'm not sure where the extra $47.18 came from.
Avoid if possible. SHOCKING customer service. In no circumstance should anyone be yelled at for requesting a receipt.
It's a shame this would happen in a...
