Bockerl Waldgasthaus — Restaurant in Gemeinde Mödling

Bad unfresh food that gave us stomach problems. Rude service (details below), dirty smelly toilets. Overpriced (details below). Good only for a beer after hiking due to its location but a big NO to eating at the place.

Expectations were high, given it's excellent location. But the place is shabby and not clean, toilets stunk all over the stairs. The food was stale (oversalted soup and tasteless schnitzel that's seems to have been frozen for a while). Paid 47 euros for 2 glasses of Punsch, 2 soups, 1 schnitzel and 2 desserts.

As we asked for the bill, the waiter/bartender and possibly the owner announced they don't take cards and was very rude when we stated that an upfront notice that they only take cash would be a guest-friendly gesture (we ended up driving to the downtown for an ATM and back to pay the bill! ) To our surprise the owner replied, I quote: "it's not my problem nor my responsibility to inform you, you must ask about our payment options yourselves, i don't care what is in your wallet". That was a very rude response given that the place is almost empty. That this attitude explains why the business it running so low. Leider ist das "Bockerl" schon lange nicht mehr das, was es früher einmal war. Nicht nur, dass viele ehemalige Stammgäste den für das Bockerl typischen Schmankerln wie zB dem Husarentoast, die leider bei einem der Pächter-Wechsel der vergangenen Jahre von der Speisekarte gestrichen wurden, nachtrauern, ist das Speisenangebot und die -qualität zwar nicht schlecht, aber auch nicht überragend gut.

Das Interieur ist unverändert geblieben, was positiv ist, da der urige Schihütten-Charakter gewahrt wird. Leider verursacht die Lüftung an einigen Tischen nahezu unerträgliche Zugluft, sodass keine Gemütlichkeit oder heimelige Atmosphäre aufkommen kann.

War früher an vorweihnachtlichen Abenden ohne Reservierung kaum ein Platz zu bekommen, verirren sich jetzt offenbar nur wenige Gäste in dieses Lokal. Das ist schade, denn das Personal (der Chef persönlich?) ist ausgesprochen freundlich und auch hundelieb - Wassernapf für den mitgebrachten Vierbeiner wird ungefragt und express gebracht.

Hoffentlich wird es spätestens im Sommer - draußen im Gastgarten - gemütlicher. Es wäre schade um die Institution "Bockerl". Übrigens bietet das Lokal seit Anfang dieses Monats auch ein...

Excellent Austrian salad, food and hospitality. Great 60 years old all wood bar and resturant with many old memorabilia on the walls. Very friendly service and reasonable prices. Only need to bring cash, as they do not accept any other form of money. Had it not been for my local colleague recommending this place, I would have not known about it. Will go there again before...
