Weinstube Spies — Restaurant in Gmunden

We were a party of six and are from America. We were greeted at the door by the manager who was friendly and found us a table. Our waiter was excellent. We asked him to recommend three of the most traditional Austrian dishes two of their most delicious appetizers and one of their favorite desserts to introduce our kids to the Austrian cuisine in an authentic way. The atmosphere in this place is crazy cool. It feels like where the locals eat and my kids thought it felt like they were in a movie. Very authentic and full of history. The atmosphere was incredible with candles and ambient lighting at each table. The food was hot and the service was quick. We enjoyed a Meat Dumping dish, a Wiener schnitzel and a roast pork dish that blew us away. The portions were perfect and my kids now love Austrian cuisine. The side salads were great to try a whole mixture of different authentic salads. There was nothing that we didn’t like. The prices were also very reasonable. For a family of six with six entrées two appetizers and dessert plus tip was €135. I honestly expect it to be more for the quality that we got. If I find myself back in Gmunden, I will definitely be going back...

After a long search for local cuisine, we chose this one. The menus are only in German, the menu was not wide, I would have expected more traditional Austrian dishes. The first day we had some lamb meatballs with kohlrabi in cream and potatoes. The portion isn't large, the side dishes are small for our taste, but we had enough and enjoyed it. Selten so eine Frechheit von einem Wirt erlebt. Rauswurf obwohl der Tisch nicht als reserviert gekennzeichnet war!!! Bin mit einem Freund der so wie ich gerne urige Lokale besucht, aufgrund der Fotos dort in diesen Hort der Unfreundlichkeit gegangen. Das Lokal war gut gefüllt aber wir haben noch einen Tisch in einer gemütlichen Ecke gefunden. Dann ging es los, trotz mehrmaligen aufmerksam machen ist die Kellnerin einfach an uns vorbeigelaufen. Wer solche Preise aufruft für sein Essen hat genug Personal einzustellen um einen normalen Gastbetrieb aufrecht zu halten. Nach 20Minuten kommt auf einmal eine Gruppe zu uns und eine Dame sagt zu ihrem Begleiter, da sitzt schon wer. Keine 15Sekunden später kommt der total unfreundliche Wirt und schnauzt uns an warum wir uns einfach gesetzt haben. Obwohl der Tisch nicht gekennzeichnet war. Meiner Meinung nach ist das in jedem Restaurant in Österreich so üblich das wenn man nicht zum Tisch gebracht wird man sich dort setzen darf wo frei ist und der nicht mit reserviert gekennzeichnet ist. Auf jeden Fall bin ich froh das ich dort nichts Essen musste, da es bei den anderen Gästen auch nicht gerade für den Preis ausreichend und gut ausgesehen hat.
