The Martin Auer is an elegant and cosy coffee shop + bakery fusion concept with long tradition and many coffee shops in Graz.
Here at Martin Auer at the Graz-Geidorfcenter you find a nice, relaxed coffee shop which has been my favorite coffee shop for years. The reason for that: it has high ceilings, its interior is light and bright with comfortable sofas/couches located in its corners, and even the chairs are comfortable to sit in for a longer stretch of time.
The lounge music playing in the background is helping you to relax even better. Below you see one of the two relaxing couch corners with also a real cow skin couch chair.
The staff is very friendly and willing to help you. The coffee shop has a great bohemian chill-out atmosphere and free WiFi as well as many plugs to charge your devices.
If you want to sit in the patio to soak up the sun, there are many comfortable beach-chairs as well as sofas outside to sit in, right next to some trees.
This coffee shop is perfectly located when it comes to long hours of sunshine inside the shop as well as outside in the patio, since it has a huge glass facade and is located next to the River Mur without many houses and especially without tall houses in between the café and the river. So all year long you can enjoy long hours of sunshine due to its great light angle.
As for the pastries and desserts, you have plenty of delicious Austrian pastries and desserts to choose from, some with cheese, nut, poppy seed, marmelade, chocolate filling and topping, only to name a few.
I had a Melange (typical Austrian coffee) with my favorite Honigreingerl (also called Kärntner Reingerl), both very delicious and a good combination by the´way. The Honigreingerl may not look spectacular from the outside but it tastes great. It is a bun with honey inside. So if you are a honey bee like me, go for it.
The only thing what could be improved at the Martin Auer is the opening hours. Since the Martin Auer coffee shop is a bakery as well, it starts early 06:30 am (weekends on 07:00 am) and closes early as well: weekdays (19:00 / 7 pm) and on Saturdays and Sundays it closes even at 18:00 (6 pm).

Read moreWell, I simply hate to leave a bad review, but this is one of those instances where it is a must. First of all~ I stood at the counter for five minutes while two employees at the bakery section simply looked over at me and didn’t signal for me to sit down or tell me that a hostess would be with me. Nor did they bother to get someone to help me. Finally when somebody comes to the service counter, they ask me to go and be seated. After several more minutes I could order at the table and then when she finally gets to get my order I told her I wanted an Americano and she didn’t know what that was she kept saying espresso and I said no it’s a long black coffee. I even said it in German- anyway after ordering the coffee she brings me a cup that is not even half full. It’s neither an espresso or an Americano but something in between, and it was cold. That’s the first and last time I’ll be...
Read moreThe pastries were excellent in that effortless way that truly great pastries manage—perfectly golden, unapologetically delicious, and entirely unaware of the joy they bring. The coffee was just as good, the kind that makes you briefly consider abandoning all responsibilities and dedicating your life to the pursuit of the perfect cup.
The service was impressive, especially considering the crowd. The staff, young and full of that rare combination of efficiency and genuine kindness, moved through the chaos with the grace of people who had long made peace with the universe.
Despite the bustling atmosphere, the place exuded a wonderfully bohemian charm—an inspiring sort of energy that made you want to write, create, or at the very least stare thoughtfully at your laptop screen while occasionally sipping your coffee, looking as if you were on the verge of a...
