We were a group of 6 bikers from Canada riding thru as part of a Rad & Reisen bike tour. We wanted to experience an Austrian dinner in a beer garden. We waited to be seated in the beer garden but was ignored for 5 minutes. Others in the meantime were seated. We finally stop a waiter and was told the beer garden seating was reserved even though there were at least 12 empty tables. We were directed inside to the hostess who took us to one corner of the restaurant and then to another part. It appeared no waiter wanted us in their section. We were then escorted back outside to the beer garden and given a table with the original waiter. He stated we had approximately 1 hour to eat & drink and must vacate by 8:00 PM (remember we were told the table was reserved).
We were done with our meal/drinks and paid the bill within 45 minutes. We left and wandered into town looking at the sights of Krems. It was 8:20 PM when we strolled by the Hofbrau beer garden. Our table was empty as were about 10 others.
Needless to say we were quite disappointed with the service and it ruined the ambiance of the dinner. We were left questioning ourselves if our group was of Chinese descent had anything to do with the situation.
It is my second trip to Austria with the missus. Everywhere else, we were treated by friendly and...
Read moreThis is a nice and very "modern" beer house. What I liked was the kind and quick service, the atmosphere of all rooms and the beer choices.
One can expect a typical German - like beer and wooden tables.
When it comes to food is something between average and not good. Almost only fried dishes, which all of them are too oily..
All in all, the place has a positive sum but don't expect much from food.
+the toilets have screens on the porcelain!!
Add 2023: we have been keep going to the hofbräu because we like it a lot, till 3 weeks ago. There was a concert in the garden and they have opened half of the interior. Although we have booked a table with the remark that we are coming with a buggy they gave an inadequate table where it was not fitting. Literally two tables further we could convenient sit but the very rude waiter told it is closed and he doesn't want to open the whole place for us. Half an hour later the table was given to the next clients as it was full. When we asked he laughed at us.
Verh very sad to have such a bad service in a very nice beer house.
Finally the food, we had stelze with side dish sauerkraut and wedges, stelze became definitely smaller since the recent past but the highlight was the sauerkraut which...
Read moreIt was a long time ago, when I evaluated the Biergarten. It will be long. 1, very kind email communication and booking procedure (I thought it was unnecessary, but I didn't know about the several events in the city) We arrived an hour earlier. The first waiter said, if we booked it via email, and today, then it wasn't really booked. We found a bigger table. After twenty minutes of waiting we thought, we should catch a waiter. A local guy joined our table 6, A waiter appeared He took the orders from him and us (He ordered a Marillenknödel, we ordered soup, and Marillenknödel and Weisswurst. After 10 minutes he got it After forty minutes when he had already finished, I asked, when we would receive any food (the beer was served) Answer: in ten minutes. A third waiter brought the food, but without the soup. I asked about it. He checked his paper and brought that one too. Ok, he said, that he was really sorry. At that time the half of the restaurant was empty. We wanted to eat some dessert, but we thought again. I don't give that rate, which is in my mind now. I hope they can reach this level again. Anyway it was my idea to go there. Next time I am not...
