Onkel Tom — Restaurant in Sölden

This was our nr 1 place in Sölden. Great food and very reasonable prices. Try starters. We had salmon, garlic bread, garlic soup (amazing) which we loved. Mains are big and tasty. Pork snitzel was good, so was steak. I think our heart was stolen by the pizza. They give you a little note pad to cross what you want on it and make it delicious. Deserts were ok, but we had better. We went there twice and service was quick both times. All proper, but nothing you’ll remember. The guy was better (much) then the older lady I must say. Aside from the weird underpinnings of this restaurant's name (or perhaps I'm just being too sensitive to Americans), this place is simply average at best. Their speciality is pizza where you can customize your own toppings but the pizza itself has a insipid sauce base and is overly dry on the crust. Their assorted grill platter is also terrible: basically random cuts of unmarinated meats and supermarket packaged sausages thrown on a grill - devoid of flavour and overcooked. The service is also bad - we asked for whipped cream for our apple strudel and they completely forgot about it to the point we would rather finish the strudel whilst it was still somewhat warm rather than wait for it. Our group had a mixed experience with this restaurant. One of us is lactose intolerant and was told that there was nothing they could eat on the menu, there appeared to be no flexibility to serve dietary needs and if not challenged further, the individual would have been left without a meal. This was unacceptable.

After negotiating, we settled on a cheese-free pizza. This pizza was sub par with raw toppings and minimal sauce.

Another disappointment was the spaghetti bolognese. Unfortunately this was of incredibly poor quality with an extremely unbalanced ratio of sauce to pasta, leaving the dish dry and inedible.

I would recommend only the steak based dishes as they were perfect.
