This was an overall disappointing experience, and not just because of the food.
It was around 8:30pm when we visited, and the restaurant was understaffed. Appeared to be the owner (?) who was doing the bulk of the work (cooking and serving), with a young boy of about 13 helping. The food came slowly. Very very slowly.
We ordered a mixture of different schnitzels, but was surprised to find that they were all basically the same dish. Each was approximately 20 Euros, which seems to be the going rate in most tourist-oriented restaurants for a schnitzel combo.
The schnitzels were mediocre and certainly nothing spectacular. The cutlets were thin and a bit sour.
Inexplicably, we were charged 3,80 Euros for lukewarm tap water (no advice whatsoever that we would be charged for TAP water!). This is ironically, given the ubiquitous nature of free water refill stations in the city, which is one of the defining characteristics of the city.
I asked for mustard, and we were given 4 portions in small cups. I am not sure if it had gone bad, but there was an odd odour to it.
What surprised me is that we were charged individually for each of the four portions, at around 2,80 Euros for four.
Seems like the theme was to nickel-and-dime tourists as much as possible. I am not sure if the other reviewers were locals, but one certainly got the impression that they were being fleeced at every turn.
Every other meal we had in Vienna was superior, may it be in nice restaurants in Old Town, or simple food kiosks about town. In fact, even the doner place by the train station proved to be objectively better - when taking into account price and service.
Overall a poor experience, even by standards of tourist eatery traps. While I appreciate that the official lanaguage is German, this was also the only restaurant where speaking in English presented a language barrier to...
Read moreThe owner or waiter was super impolite, moody and unwelcome. He did everything so loud like to express that he was not happy to welcome us. It was only us 5 people in the restaurant. Once we enter he asked me foreign language that i dont understand. Once our seniors asks about the toilet. He said outside near the shopping mall and it was only who sitting inside. He talked to me. They should go outside. It’s free!! And he pointed 2 fingers to me like he was watching so i was not ok. Then I call my bf to pick me up and change the restaurant. When i told him i want to change the restaurant because you are not welcome and moody. If you are not ready to sell, you shiuld close the restaurant! He talked to me “ok go outside” and open the door. He was super super impolite and worst service i’ve ever experience.
If you want to experience, you can try to...
Read moreFood is decent, but it is grossly overpriced. Veal schnitzel costs 18.90 euros each 3.30 euros per person for 2 glasses of still water which was probably tap water. 0.60 each for ketchup and mayonnaise which worked out to 1.20 euro per person
In total we were charged 47.80 euros for 2 persons and most likely charged more as we were tourists.
We went into the shop at around 6pm on a Sunday and there was nobody at all. The atmosphere felt rather intimidating as the owners were tenderizing the meat with hammer loudly in the background and sharpening knives near our table.
Don't be deceived by the other positive reviews. With the price they are charging, it is comparable with figlmullers, which is much much better.
Stay away, dont make the same...
