De Sinjoor — Restaurant in Antwerp

I’m grateful that we were able to find a place in the Christmas night without reservation. The people were friendly, but the food is all that matters right? TBH my friends and I didn’t like any of the food we ordered. We had the chicken, goulash, and spareribs, but none of them were worth the price tag in our opinion. The vol-au-vent was a little bit tasteless, and the spareribs were not soft, covered with weirdly sweet sauce. None of these was hot when served; they were merely warm. The atmosphere was fine, but sadly we’d not return for the food. In response to the restaurant’s comment - you asked if we liked it, we hesitated and didn’t answer; and then you quickly asked if we’ve finished our food, and that’s when we said yes and let you take the plates. I think there’s a difference in between and I don’t appreciate being called timid for that. We obviously didn’t want to be rude bc the food was not the taste we liked; it doesn’t mean that it’s bad for others, which I’ve tried to make it clear in my previous comment. We didn’t think it’s a bad restaurant, and therefore there was no need to make a scene out of it; we just don’t find the food matching our preferences and that should be okay, considering everyone has their own preferences right? We did finish our main courses bc it would be a waste not to - it was just not matching our expectations for the price. Anyways, if my perspective of truth is not appealing to hear, it’s not my intention to ruin anyone’s holiday mood. Merry Christmas and I hope everyone else...

The service is quite acceptable, friendly and courteous. We were a large group and my guests were somewhat disappointed. The wine selection is somewhat exotic for my taste but the muscadet was nice with the mussels. The starters were alright, the shrimp croquettes were well-prepared, tasty, however the cheese croquettes were a disappointment and had been kept on a hotplate burning the croûte. The Angus beef was correctly prepared saignant but the quality of the meat supposed to be filet but was full of tendons such that my guest had to leave more then a 1/3 of his steak on his plate. However the seasoning was totally missing. The Scampi prepared with a cream sauce lacked any seasoning. The mussels were enough quantity wise, but they lacked pepper seasoning, and most pots were filled with imperial size mussels and some supers, not the advertised jumbos, that is disappointing for customers. When I addressed the seasoning issue I was told that customers don't like seasoned dishes, les excuses sont faites pour s'en servir...
