I am sure your tourist guide has an elaborate article dedicated to Antwerp City Hall, a beautiful Renaissance building, which happens to be UNESCO Heritage. Locals call this edifice “‘t schoon verdiep.” In doing so, they refer to the beautiful first floor where the mayor of Antwerp resides. The statue in front of City Hall honours Salvus Brabo a brave Roman warrior with Roman roots.This combatant slew the giant who taxed all the ships seeking to enter the harbour, 50 percent of their stock. After a rigorous battle, he cut off the hand from the giant Antigoon and threw it into the river. Given the fact that the behemoth had done the same with the hands of revolting sailors, this repercussion was well-suited. This legend explains how Antwerp got its name. The two Dutch words “hand” and “werpen”, which mean hand and throwing, were concatenated into “Antwerpen.” Either way, with no giants around, except for the local basketball team, our mayor is at ease. City Hall isn't always open to the public. But sometimes a guided tour is a available. That said you can enjoy wandering around the square in front of this stupendous stucture and enjoy the view. Try to spot some chopped off hands as well while you are at it.

Stadhuis (Town Hall) is an inscribed UNESCO World Heritage attraction situated at Grote Markt in Antwerp. There is presently a 450 year anniversary exhibition until the end of March 2017 for those interested in entering Stadhuis and learning about its history. Note the irregular opening Hours M,W (12-5pm), ST (1-5pm) and SN (12-5pm) if you are trying to schedule a visit as part of your Antwerp sightseeing. You can also enjoy the ornate facade of the Stadhuid which was designed by Cornelis Floris de Vriendt in an architectural manner that blends Flemish and Italian renaissance styles. Its decorative, regal and very beautiful here at the Grote Markt, amongst the many guidhalls and traditional step-gabbled buildings. Note: You can take nice pictures of Stadhuis from in front of the Barbo Fountain, capturing both in your camera lens. This is a nice image of this attraction and Grote Markt.

Het Stadhuis is een prachtig voorbeeld van de Brabantse gotische architectuur en straalt een indrukwekkende grandeur uit. Het gebouw is rijkelijk versierd met beeldhouwwerken, torentjes en spitsbogen die getuigen van de vakmanschap en artistieke finesse van de bouwers. De gevel van het Stadhuis is een visueel spektakel op zich, en de details nodigen uit tot een grondige inspectie. Binnenin wordt de pracht voortgezet, met prachtige zalen en kamers die rijk zijn aan geschiedenis en kunst. De Gotische Zaal, ook wel bekend als de Trouwzaal, is een bijzonder hoogtepunt. Deze zaal ademt een gevoel van grootsheid en is vaak het decor voor belangrijke evenementen en trouwerijen. Antwerp City Hall is a true gem! The Renaissance architecture is stunning, with its grand facade and intricate details that reflect the city's rich history. Inside, the art and decor are equally impressive. It's located right on the Grote Markt, making it easy to explore the surrounding area as well. The guided tours are informative and well worth it. Whether you're an architecture enthusiast or just love beautiful buildings, Antwerp City Hall is a must-see. Highly recommend!

Very beautiful building located in the grote markt of antwerp city ! It is apart of the central foutain of the square, the main attraction in the area ! The beautiful and colorful flags make it such a pretty building to photograph. The best part is that there are not much tourists around here, at least there were much less than what i expected. Overall very nice sqaure with many shops and cafes around it 👍🏻 Sitting area also available in the grote markt square.

Het Stadhuis van Antwerpen is niet zomaar een gebouw; het is een meesterwerk dat getuigt van de rijke geschiedenis en prachtige architectuur van deze bruisende stad. Ik had het voorrecht om dit iconische juweeltje te bezoeken, en het heeft me oprecht betoverd. Vanaf het moment dat je de imposante gevel ziet, voel je de grandeur en het historische belang van dit stadhuis. Het is een architectonisch wonder, een mix van gotische en renaissancestijlen die de aandacht trekt en bewondering oproept. Eenmaal binnen word je overweldigd door de prachtige interieurs. De raadzaal, met zijn majestueuze plafondschilderingen en elegante houtsnijwerk, is een toonbeeld van grandeur. Het is moeilijk om niet onder de indruk te raken van de kunstwerken en de historische ambiance die deze plek ademt. Een hoogtepunt van mijn bezoek was de wandeling door de binnenplaats en de trap naar de bovenverdiepingen. Hier ontdekte ik de prachtige details en genoot ik van een panoramisch uitzicht op de Grote Markt van Antwerpen. Het Stadhuis van Antwerpen is niet alleen een architectonisch meesterwerk, maar ook een levend stuk geschiedenis. Het is een plek die de ziel van de stad belichaamt en een must-visit bestemming voor iedereen die de rijke cultuur en het erfgoed van Antwerpen wil ervaren. Ik raad het ten zeerste aan aan iedereen die de stad bezoekt - het is een ware schat!

Description
The City Hall of Antwerp, Belgium, stands on the western side of that city's Grote Markt. Erected between 1561 and 1565, after designs made by Cornelis Floris de Vriendt and several other architects and artists, this Renaissance building incorporates both Flemish and Italian influences.
