KŪKAI. Matcha Studio — Restaurant in Antwerp

Their matcha flavor is good, and the girls who work there are generally very friendly, which is appreciated. However, every time I visit, I find something disappointing. There’s no takeaway option, and when you enter, you’re immediately approached by one of the girls asking what you’d like. If you ask whether they have a menu—which is reasonable to take a few moments to think about what to order, especially since not everyone makes decisions in 3 seconds, particularly with people waiting behind you—they’ll respond that they don’t have a menu but can guide you. They usually offer two or three options, and you’re expected to decide on the spot. It seems like they are constantly changing and trying to define their business style, but from a customer’s perspective, the experience isn’t entirely...

Visited here when it was heavily raining ☔️ during the day. I saw there was a unique matcha specialty cafè, so definitely as a matcha lover, I had to drop by for a taste.

The shop is very small but well kept and clean. Atmosphere was lovely.

We have ordered two matcha drinks and a tiny cake, all tasted good. Honestly matcha wasn’t “perfectly the best” considering I’m used to Korean and Japanese Matcha flavor, but it was okay for here to try this unique place.

Also everything was about 20euros, I felt it’s a bit pricy even though considering inflation.

Pastry was very tiny but delicious, all of us enjoyed the drinks and time...

I have visited Kukai many times and I can say that their drinks are absolute perfection. They also have their own brand of Japanese matcha that they sell in the store. The owner is very sweet and passionate about her business and will always take some time to chat with customers. My only remark is that the sweets are on the more expensive side, and my cookie last time didn’t taste fresh compared to the other stuff I have tried there. It was a very sunny day, so maybe it was affected by the baked goods sitting under a glass counter with the sunlight on it for a couple of hours. Regardless, Kukai is a hotspot you must...
