Particolare 🇮🇹 — Restaurant in Antwerp

The waiters are fantastic, but the chef’s ego and disrespect are beyond shocking. I discreetly asked the waitress (who is a sweetheart) for a vegetarian bruschetta. She asked the kitchen and came back to me, asking if I could just remove the pork. I explained that now that I saw it, I found it disgusting, which is why I couldn’t do it, and that I would appreciate having a vegetarian one instead. And of course, if it wasn’t possible, it wouldn’t have been a problem. She told the chef, and his reaction was unbelievable. In front of the whole restaurant, in French (thinking I wouldn’t understand), he loudly spoke to others, mocking my request and questioning publicly why I couldn’t just remove the pork myself, claiming that my request was exaggerated. The problem, sir, is that you must respect people’s wishes and principles. It’s none of your business why someone can or can’t remove pork from their dish. I simply asked a question; a “No, sorry, madam, that’s not possible” would have been sufficient. It’s all about manners and behavior. You made me feel apart and different and made jokes about my principles, which is not the feeling you want to leave someone with after what should have been a “nice night out at a restaurant.” And coming to me afterward, asking if I want it vegetarian, is far too late. We went to eat there with a group of four on a Friday. We had a reservation at 19.00, and there we were told they work with a fixed menu, which was not a problem for us. However, what they should have told us that they only start serving food when all tables are seated. We waited for approximately 45 minutes before we received our first bite. Even though we were one of the first tables to arrive they first started serving all the 2p tables, leaving us extremely confused why we were not getting any food.

I was there the same evening as the two last reviews. This is our neighbourhood restaurant and the food is always delicious and fresh. Yesterday, the front of house team were hit by several power outages, which meant that their cash register went offline and they could not input any orders or get them out. The result was confusion and a (long) wait. When the food did come, it was everything I needed. A delicious plate of flavourful pasta!
