De Hanze — Restaurant in Bruges

Horrible service. We ended our meal and they then decided to tell us we had to pay cash. We had no cash but luckily found the exact amount to pay foe the bill. They charged me for ketchup AND mayo without telling me when the waiter asked “do you want ketchup or mayo with your fries” obviously making it seem as if it was complimentary. The waiter didn’t even give me a receipt and when I asked for the Receipt he said I had to get up and go to the counter to pick it up rather than him bringing it to my table. There was a credit card machine on the counter and when I asked why I couldn’t use this machine he smiled saying it didn’t work. It’s frustrating because we were obviously getting made fun of and were never told to pay cash at all. Not at all impressed with this restaurant. Service was horrible for us. Perhaps it was our language, but almost everyone we have come in contact with in Belgium speaks very good English. Not so in this restaurant. Communicating our requests for food and drink was a struggle. I asked for an Olive for a Vodka Martini and the waiter said I could not have one and joked about how mean the bartender was. My wife asked for still water and got sparkling. The entire process was a struggle. It's not often I am so disappointed in service at a restaurant. We ordered shrimp scampi. They delivered the meal over loaded with parmesan cheese which made the meal thick, not juicy or creamy, like white sludge sauce. And paying the bill was like pulling teeth. I am sorry, but to call this 'food' is really hard! I really don't know where to start. First of all we ordered croquette with shrimps as a starter, they were not bad but 15 Euro for two croquettes?
