During our visit to Bruges, we had the pleasure of dining at grand kafee de passage where we enjoyed an authentic taste of Belgian cuisine. The highlight of our meal was the traditional Flemish stew—rich, tender, and full of deep, comforting flavors. Paired with a selection of local beers, it was the perfect introduction to classic Flemish food.

The ambiance of the restaurant added to the experience. The interior had a charming, traditional feel, decorated with vintage portraits and old-style décor that gave it a warm and nostalgic character. It felt like stepping into a piece of Bruges’ history, making our meal even more enjoyable.

On top of that, the service was excellent. The staff was incredibly welcoming, making us feel at home from the moment we arrived. Service was fast and efficient, yet we never felt rushed, allowing us to fully appreciate the atmosphere and our meal.

If you’re looking for a place in Bruges to enjoy authentic Flemish cuisine in a cozy, historic setting, this is a fantastic choice. Highly recommended!

The food was ok (not spectacular) The place is good. An interesting place to go that would be extremely better if the staff selection would be reconsider.

The problem, BIG PROBLEM, was the lady staff. She is (I think) the only waitress. And I deeply think she should be studying how to work in an honest way, doing something different or working in some place not in touch with clients. She is rude, arrogant and a lier. A terrible lier that recommended us a lot of unnecessary food, brought us wrong beers (regular blonde instead of ipa) and insisted us that she couldn’t give them back because we had already “put our lips on the bottle”. Disgusting.

Of course we had to pay for all the wrongly recommended extra food, the mistakes with the beer and the miserable service. It was a pity, very disappointing. A horrible fare away from Bruges. We will definitively not come back to this restaurant and only because of this “waitress”. People like that should not be working with tourists. People like that is only harmful and a black spot from...

Honestly, I’m under the impression, that this place has such a high rating as it isn’t worth those stars and those money at all.

Let’s begin with food - we ordered shrimp croquettes and ribs. The croquettes were tasteless, didn’t notice if there was shrimp inside. The ribs were just “ok”, nothing really special. Also I doubt they were freshly made (probably warmed up).

Moreover, we asked them for the second plate, as we wanted to share ribs and I was completely SHOCKED, that they included this for the ADDITIONAL FEE - 3.50€.

Dear Gran Kaffee, when asking to pay 3.50€ for the additional setting, keep in mind that we do not eat your plates and forks, so you can wash them and put them to the drawer (so the question is, what are we paying for?). Also, since we ordered 2 dishes - we already had 2 forks and 2 knives, meaning, that we payed 3.50€ only for the plate.

Finally, Gran Kaffee, you’re asking to pay for settings, but you even can’t buy new glasses/mugs as yours are chipped...

What a hidden gem this place is! Very unassuming from the outside but the vibes inside are immaculate, as is the food! I had the Flemish beef stew which was so hearty and filling. I peeked at the food on other people's tables and the ribs and steak gave me food envy, so might have to come back and try those as well. Having just arrived into Belgium, I asked the waiter for a beer recommendation and he asked me a few questions about what I liked and then came back with one of the best beers I've ever tasted. The man knew how to pick a good beer! My only feedback would be to serve the stew with a spoon, as it's quite difficult to eat it with a fork. Already looking forward to my next meal here!

This place was very nice and the same can be said for the servers who made sure we were always happy. The food was also very good and although the beef stew had previously gotten a bad review, I ordered it and was very happy with my meal. I can see why it could have gotten a bad rating as the flavours were very strong but I like it like that. Would come again and recommend although it is quite pricey, also I do not understand why they can’t start bringing out free water from the tap when people ask them for water. I only see this in European countries and I think many customers would be very happy with tap water.
