Free tables in Bruges on a Saturday evening in December are as rare as hen's teeth, so resigning ourselves to a street corner hot dog, we made one more phone call with very low expectations of finding something. From the moment De Verloren Hoek answered the phone we felt on to a winner. We were told the restaurant was booked, but there may be a table at 8.30, however, we were welcome to come and sit at the bar for some Tapas. It was 6.30 and we decided that sounded like a plan, so we hopped in a cab and off we went (it's out of the centre of town). Upon arrival, we were seated at the bar and served a cocktail, at which point the owner came up and welcomed us, saying there had been a cancellation and he had saved the table for us. Result...he explained that the menu was in Flemish as most of his customers were local, so he translated everything for us, with recommendations. The attention on us as customers was second to none, and the menu was excellent. We cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. Service was above and beyond the call of duty and despite the place being full, we were made to feel special from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. The food was superb, with a special mention for the Razor Clams and the Scallops. If you plan to visit Bruges anytime soon, and eating out is high on your agenda, book a table well in advance, you will be so glad you did. A wonderful evening was had,...
Read moreWOW! My husband and I visited this restaurant on our last night in Brugges in October. It was recommended to us by the staff at the Hotel Van Cleef as one of the best-kept secrets, and they were not kidding.
We arrived too early, due to an unplanned walk, and were warmly accommodated by Maya, server. She kindly allowed us to sit and order wine while we waited for the kitchen to open officially.
The restaurant is small but very well-appointed and cozy. They also had excellent music playing. It is clearly a favorite with locals because it quickly fills up with people who know the owners very well.
Thomas, who told us he was a busboy at the restaurant years ago is now the owner with the cook, Zura. The food was outstanding! My husband ordered a stead, which the chef brought over to him before he cooked it. I ordered the Dover sole, which was perfect.
I honestly cannot say enough good things about this restaurant, and we will definitely be back! Thank you so much for such a...

This cozy, family-run restaurant specializes in expertly aged cuts, and the experience is elevated by the knowledgeable staff. Our waiter gave us excellent recommendations, helping us choose the Belgian meat option, which was incredibly flavorful and perfectly cooked. To complement the meal, we opted for a Georgian red wine, a unique and bold choice that paired beautifully with the rich flavors of the meat.
What makes this place special is its warm and inviting atmosphere. Unlike the more tourist-heavy spots in the city, De Verloren Hoek feels like a true local favorite. The setting is also unique—right in front of the restaurant, you’ll find two windmills, adding to the charm and making the experience even more memorable.
