We went here with high hopes, but the restaurant was apparently closed. This alone would never make me give such a bad review. Online it said it was open and the sign on the door also said that they were open. But since the door was locked, I knocked, assuming that it was because they were due to open by 18.00 and it was a few mins past when we arrived there. But, the man who opened the door slightly was snipish and curt when telling me that they were closed.
A lady with her husband and child, and a couple other people, had already gathered behind me when he shut the door in my face. The lady was not convinced as she saw the "We are open" sign hanging on the door and she decided to knock. She was also a bit peeved on my behalf, which I found refreshing after what had just happened.
She and her husband also apparently spoke Arabic. Boy, was the man so much more polite to the gentleman when he asked if the restaurant was actually not open for business. He was like "oh you speak arabic" with an open smile.
This seemed to push more of the lady's buttons as she didn't like the difference in attitude. She and the man got into a heated discussion in French this time, while she pointed to both me and the open sign. He actually said something along the line of "Well, I can just turn the sign over, so there!"
The lady seemed to be living locally and a regular visitor, so she was confused as to why they were suddenly closed. But my husband and I, along with the others gathered behind us were tourists and would have come only after checking online. So, his reaction was even more baffling.
I thanked the lady, as she made it much easier fir me to walk away, and left thinking that this would be the last time I would try to...
Read moreWe stumbled upon this little gem by accident as we couldnt find an opened vegetarian-friendly restaurant in Dinant (centre area) on walking distance. At first, we were a bit skeptical due to the atmosphere-enhancing (loud-ish) music but we are amazed by the venue.
We were escorted by the very friendly staff to the large sunny terrace behind the building. Staff spoke English and was very helpful in guiding us through the (Moroccan cuisine) menu (in French language).
We tried several dishes and loved all of them. We especially recommend the fondue au fromage (cheese "croquette" w/salad) and the couscous or tajine dishes. But undoubtedly all dishes are as fragrant as tasteful. For dessert we had the Morrocan style pastries (sweet but not too sweet) with the fresh mint tea. This was served with great hospitality.
Although the facade may not imply it, this restaurant is probably the most hygenic in the entire Dinant area. And also the best tasting in town! We hope you also get to experience the great food and nice staff in an comfortable and atmospheric scenery. You will be served with a smile at great value for...
Read moreWe chose to eat here based on the glowing reviews of the vegetarian options for my wife. In reality, there was one main choice sadly. Vegetable couscous. Plain couscous with an unexciting vegetable broth arrived at our table and whilst plentiful, it was bland. I had the mixed grill and that was nothing to write home about either. Add to the fact our table was down the corridor by the kitchen that had zero atmosphere, it made our experience rather a dreary one. Such a shame as the staff were really nice and friendly. Why is it so hard to find decent vegetarian grub? Sadly, I can't recommend this place based on our experience, especially to any vegetarian who is used to tasty...
