We ordered — sweet breakfast, French toast, scrambled eggs + bacon, chai tea, hot white chocolate w/ cinnamon. The food overall was good, the breads were freshly baked and the sourdough was soft and chewy. The servings were generous so you can guarantee you’ll be full by the end of your meal. I would say though that the eggs were a bit dry for my taste and the French toast wasn’t really good and frankly, it wasn’t really « French toast » but more an egg toast. There was too much egg which you could clearly see covering the toast and I could barely taste the cinnamon or even the bread as all I could taste was egg. Texture-wise though it was good (crunchy on the outside and soft inside). The drinks were exceptionally good I would even come just to grab tea or a hot cup of cocoa. Didn’t get to take a photo as it came later but the sweet breakfast came with orange juice, and a hot drink of your choice. The atmosphere was nice and quiet and the staff were very friendly and attentive and easy to communicate with. They have a decent amount of options to choose from if you like sweet breakfast but for those like myself who love a big, hearty salty breakfast, there isn’t much options but they do have sandwiches and a lunch menu as an alternative. Overall we had a pleasant time and would still recommend the restaurant.

Another eatery packed with locals - which I guess says it all. Open for breakfast-brunch, lunch and afternoon drinks/eating. Appearing from the street as a café, Pain Perdu is more like a cool, relaxed bistro. The food here is great and, in good weather, you can enjoy eating in the private garden area in the back or sit out front and watch the world go by, either at a table or in a deck chair. All-in-all, the menu is for quick, bistro-style eats, but done well enough that it almost can't be called a bistro. The menu is extensive enough to suit most palettes and the specials board is well worth a look (such as the Cesaer salad burger pictured) for more tasty options. The atmosphere seems to encourage people to sit, enjoy and relax and the service is pretty prompt and friendly even when it's busy. We'll recommended for locals and tourists alike.

My husband and I made a point of visiting the popular brunch spot, Pain Perdu, during our city break to Ghent, and we were impressed by the setting. The lunchroom itself is stunning, boasting a beautifully ornate ceiling that creates a gorgeous and memorable atmosphere for a quick brunch. The experience was further enhanced by the attentive staff, who were both friendly and prompt in their service. We also appreciated the evident quality and freshness of the ingredients used across their dishes. However, we did feel there was a slight drawback in the value for money, as the offerings were quite pricey when considering the rather modest portion sizes provided. One of us ordered the croque monsieur, but what arrived was just a simple ham and cheese toastie, which was a little bit disappointing.

The place has a cute and cozy atmosphere and it has an interesting menu. The waitresses make you feel like they could care less about your existence bringing incomplete orders, forgetting to place orders, ignoring you for 45 minutes, taking that same time or more for a salad... all while attending other table and gossiping with friends coming in. We sat in the communal table in front of them and since for quite some time they wouldnt come with menus, assumed we had to order in the cashier so stood up to do so. It was the barista who came out to explain they would come to the table. Eventually they did and we ordered drinks, day soup + bread and salad. They brought drinks, one bowl of soup, no side of bread and no salad for the other person. This went on for over 45 minutes while they served those that came after us and despite asking again for it, until again the barista came out to apologize and say they had forgotten about our order. Some 20 more minutes salad was served, not even an "im sorry" when delivering it or any type of gesture....

Just back from a lovely weekend in Ghent and read about Le Pain Perdu so thought I would take my girlfriend there for breakfast. It did not disappoint, lovely relaxed atmosphere and venue, the staff were excellent and could not do enough to help... we had a mixture off of the menu, avocado, smoked salmon, scrambled egg which came with bacon and boiled egg, an array of excellent bread, local chocolate spread and jam, my flat white was good and my girlfriend had a fresh mint tea... I could not fault it! they offer a wide selection and the quality and attention to detail is very good.. I have eaten at a lot of places and this is somewhere I’d return to regularly and will when I’m next in Ghent.. this place is one of the reasons I love coming it Belgium, atmosphere and quality food but unfortunately now that we have these reviews people seem to like to find fault in any minor issue which can happen anywhere but if you know what’s good then this place...
