Aux Merveilleux de Fred — Local services in Ghent

To respond to the response: My review is not the worst, you have a massive pile of bad reviews because you are a tourist-trap establishment. You lure them in through transparent display glasses and then treat them like dirt when they are in. You charge crazy amounts per piece additionally when people sit in instead of leaving. Don’t simply respond to me just to put on an act, leave your contact details or offer some solution if you actually genuinely want to resolve this. I am never visiting one of your shops again after this ridiculousness.

My visit was today, around 11:30. I paid €26 for a horrible experience and bad pastry. Like I said, your employee was clueless and careless enough to serve me an unbaked/non-rested brioche. She was too busy for me to call out to her to have it fixed.

Original review: Horrible employees, they all hate their job, so the minute they see customers they are upset as they have to work more. The waitress is literally clueless and slow. She brought me an uncooked chocolate bun, it was super doughy inside. It clearly needed to rest. The coffee is awful and expensive. Croissants tasted worse than grocery store ones. I definitely don't recommend the place. They know how to rip off tourist very well. I bought coffeeand desert. The bill was about 5 euro. When I go to register to pay, they told me minimum 10 euro for credit card. They should have told me initially. Since they never mentioned anything up front, they should have at least break their very strict rule once. But NO they didn't. Instead of it, offered me to take my passport until I find cash or forcefully sell me something I don't want. So I ended up buying things I don't need or want, for not giving my passport. It was total WHAT THE F* moment to me....

Excellent customer service and delicious delicacies! We'd actually planned to get something at the nut and chocolate place across the road, but they were not welcoming of children and we left with our kids in tears. Fortunately, the staff at Aux merveilles de Fred were very welcoming, friendly and offered detailed advice and assistance, even though it was a busy morning for them. To top it all off, the meringues we got were superb - a lovely blend of flavours and textures and we really enjoyed eating them together as a family. The boutique itself is also stunning.
