Maneki-Neko — Restaurant in Ixelles - Elsene

The staff have an odd way of communicating with guests, cannot comment on the food as we didn’t get that far, shame because the other reviews are extremely good. This review is solely based on my personal experience.

We were not allowed to sit at any of the empty tables at the front of the place. We had to sit in the back at the restaurant part. Note this place is completely empty at 13:15 in the afternoon.

The first single table was practically in the door opening and my wife and I did not want to sit there, so took the opportunity to sit at a table that was connected to another table. Again the entire restaurant was empty (at 13:15), and we were still demanded to sit elsewhere because we were only two guests.

My wife had a practically empty bottle of water with her (just came from the gym) and we weren’t allowed to sit with the bottle, which is understandable, but even putting it on the floor was too much of a problem.

After this we decided to have lunch elsewhere.

Amazing Asian restaurant with one of the nicest staff I have ever met, speaking three languages and always kept checking everything was okay. The food was brilliant as my sister and dad had the sake teriyaki and chicken teriyaki whilst I had gyūniku teriyaki (the most tender beef ever by the way) which was so good I forgot to take a photo! Would certainly recommend absolutely anything on the menu. Even had a freebie...

Everything was delicious and fresh, and the service was very pleasant. On top of that, the prices are very reasonable for downtown. We tried the noodles with chicken, sushi, and the vegetable gyoza. The gyoza were some of the best I’ve ever had. The sushi was very fresh.

My only recommendation is that they stock low sodium soy sauce in the future, otherwise this was a perfect lunch. We...
