Brussels is a city where people, notably expats, do love brunching. I could not agree more: either you take shelter in a cosy place during (our) rainy-ish winters, either you soak up the (unpredictable) sun in a terrace during summer - surrounded by your dearest ones - brunches are the best way to remind us why we should thoroughly love weekends. Brunching in Brussels is far from being flawless, though. The balance between quality/size/price is normally - to put it politely - poor. Combine this with throngs and rather frustrating customer service and you may not get the happiest brunch postcard, if compared with other European Capitals. So, let me get straight to the point: Comptoir Rodin is, by far, the best brunch place I have been to. The food was tasty, the choice was very large, the ambience was incredibly cosy & intimate (forget about the roaring crowds you may stumble upon elsewhere), and the staff was friendly, professional, attentive, flexible (YES, you can pay by card, any card; YES, you can split the bill: revolution in Brussels) and genuinely cared about the clients' needs and opinion. The only looming question is whether the word-of-mouth would quickly turn Comptoir Rodin into another over-popular branché, hip, favourite expats' spot, where finding a table is a struggle. Well, the risk (and the queue) would be worth-taking. Excellent,...
Read moreI am left a little perplexed if am honest, I heard a lot about the place so my expectations were kind of high, the space is great (giving credit where it’s due) the decor as well.
The food wasn’t amazing, it was really average. It took a long time to get our drinks order, there wasn’t enough cutlery on our table despite the fact that I had reserved prior for a table of 6 (so they knew we were coming...). We were there with 2 kids (10 & 12 years) there wasn’t a lot of choice in the buffet for children (they did enjoy the pancakes though, but I’d have preferred they not eat just that) and ours are not fussy eaters.
WiFi wasn’t working 😳!
The staff were friendly enough, just not very proactive, which is a shame.
Sorry guys, I believe you can be better so please take my criticism constructively to improve. Maybe see you again in...
Read moreTried brunch. Gorgeous and gorgeously renovated place (although very much is the « brut » style that you find in nearly every hip places nowadays), very good fresh and healthy Middle Eastern inspired food (Ottolenghi style). However choice for desert was ok but not much better and, main let know, at 29 euro for a brunch with one hot drink, this is significantly more expensive than other similar (and sometimes better) places in Brussels, hence the 3 stars only. If prices at 25, it would be 4 stars. With a cold drink on top, it would become my...
