Le Pain Quotidien — Restaurant in Knokke-Heist

Very sad and unfortunate experience, revealing other side of Knokke. Non-flemish people and other foreigners - avoid and don't ruin your day by going here, there are plenty of positive and cute places around. We have taken away coffee and cakes, because we were planning to go to the beach. Once we reached the car rain started and we put the cakes back in the car, willing to get back and have a full-on breakfast until rain stops, however we were quickly greeted by an angry waitress who said that we are not allowed to sit outside with take away cups. We explained that we are willing to order food and just wait out the rain, but the lady did not believe us and in loud manner said that if we want to order anything we must order "right now" and pay "immediately", which were not the conditions for other people around us. She was assured that we just wanted to get away with cheaper coffees, as we are foreigners, which we even said we are happy to pay extra for if needed to have them inside. Sad to experience cultural discrimination in such a "developed" country. Shouting of the waitress attracted a lot of attention and other people were as shocked as we were. Truly horrible service experience ! I have been there with couple of friends and got treated like another sort of people. Ordered coffee and couldn’t have it there because apparently take away is different price than in-house. I wanted to pay extra to have my coffee there however instead I was accused of being a thief and purposely lying to have it take away. Obviously that is not the truth. I just ordered a coffee. Very nice brunch and breakfast, always more then enough to eat and great quality products. Very friendly and helpful staff! Don't hesitate to ask for a to go bag to take home your excess bread, trying to avoid waste and all 😊Maybe a tip to the staff for the kids breakfast. Offer a warm milk in stead of the hot chocolate as it's quite 'heavy' being made with real chocolate. Also serving it in a mug rather then a very full bowl might be less...
