JALOU — Restaurant in Schaerbeek - Schaarbeek

I think that when they first opened, I would have given them 4 stars. What I found then (and occasionally today still) is that the amount of flavors they have by the scoop is somewhat lacking (went by the other day and it was vanilla, chocolate, olive oil and pistachio or something like that plus a couple of sorbets - none of which attract me personally).

However, they started occasionally adding cookie dough and stracciatella, which are game changers. Would still like to see their best flavor (orangette) offered at the salon by the scoop, but you can still always get all of those flavors for take away.

Besides the ice cream choice however, the desserts offered there are all excellent and all of the chocolate based ones are made across the street. It's an excellent place to grab a coffee and dessert or an ice cream of course!

My only constructive feedback would be that I would love to start seeing more diverse flavors offered consistently by the scoop (orangette, where you at!?). Besides that, I can highly recommend this place to anyone. We are truly lucky to have it in our...

I was very curious to go because it looks great but sadly I was quite disappointed. To deserve the asking prices, it needs a lot more customer service and attention to detail. What I disliked: a cold (at best lukewarm) capuccino, to have to queue and carry your own tray when seated indoors (!) when there is plenty of (distant) staff, few flavours of ice cream, being served scoops of ice-cream in cardboard pots and worse of all one of those disposable recycled wooden spoons...all good if you are in a takeaway setting where 5 scoops and 3 drinks do not set you...

Probablement un des meilleurs glaciers parmi toutes les communes avoisinantes. Je viens de loin pour acheter mes glaces chez JALOU. Le choix est réduit, ce qui assure des produits de top qualités (même les pots à emporter) et les gouts sont toujours surprennent. Ils ont toujours les classiques mais régulièrement, un ou deux gouts spéciaux viennent s'ajouter et c'est à chaque fois un régal !

Le seul bémol : vous n'êtes pas assez visible et l'endroit —une sorte de vieux café de quartier— fait un peu pitié et ne donne pas envie de s'installer pour déguster une de vos excellentes glaces. Il faut l'avouer, ça ne sent pas bon à l'intérieur et… c'est "moche". :'(

Mais si vous aimez vraiment la vraie glace artisanale, loin de ces chaines que l'on voit un peu partout dans Bruxelles : allez-y les yeux fermés ! Ça vaut vraiment le détour. Ils sont aussi présent dans le parc Josaphat qui se trouve un peu plus loin. 👍🏻

Cependant, un détail me dérange malgré les explications absurdes reçues : le packaging des glaces à emporter. Avant, c'était un pot (500ml) en carton recyclable ET prévu pour terminer sa vie au compost ! Génial. Mais récemment, il a été remplacé par un pot en plastique rigide, qu'il faut jeter avec les PMC. Une très mauvaise idée, absolument pas écologique. Revenez à vos pots en carton s'il vous plait ! 🙏🏼🌍
