I have never had such a terrible experience as dinner here. We came on a Friday night (non performance night) and had made reservations for a group of 8 at 6:30. We placed our order within 20 minutes of sitting down and drinks came out…. The staff let us know a couple of times that the food would be slow that night and we were fine with that (we are on island time, too). We got our first 4 meals at 8:30. About 10 minutes later, two more meals came (but one was missing the sides). The waiter then apologized but the cook was refusing to make the rest of our meal. I have no idea what happened but one of the meals was the exact same as another person’s in the party. Eventually two more came out (still missing the sides, and the missing meal, which was for a child). By this time people had eaten part of each plate so it wasn’t easy to share as we could have had we known some food would not be coming. Other tables were still receiving meals so I have no idea why ours was not made. In the end, we were not charged for the missing meal, they took a portion of two of the meals off, and gave us some banana bread in apology. We were really looking forward to this meal as we had loved our Hudut meal in Hopkins and were eager to try it here. But none of us were even able to finish our meals as our appetites were completely ruined by the experience. Needless to say, we would not return and strongly advise others to avoid this...

I just came from Hopkins (“The REAL Garifuna experience and food”).Today 08/08/24, I was SO looking forward to experiencing this restaurant in San Pedro. My stew chicken meal was bland and without flavor because the gravy was missing garlic and herbs. The rice was dry but did have coconut flavor. Also, the potato salad was delicious. However, my major concern was that the chicken was old, not fresh and tough. The smell from the cooking that permeated the space was of old grease. I should have taken heed of the precursor to a terrible meal. The horchata drink was excessively sweet and had a funny aftertaste. When I made mention of my concern it was met with indifference. The “cook” did not come to address the issue. I think that is very poor customer service or lack there of.

To top everything off, a service charge was “conveniently” added with no mention of it on the menu or by the waitress.Upon payment she had the unmitigated gall to inquire about if I needed my change.…ABSOLUTELY !!! I tipped the drummers with it. They were entertaining.

I can’t fathom the rave reviews for this place. For delicious food and an authentic experience take a trip to Hopkins with the plethora of exceptional dining options.Unfortunately,I will not and cannot recommend anyone going to Black and White Garifuna Restaurant and Bar.Hoping not to get sick from...

I really wanted to enjoy this restaurant. I heard many people talk about it in travel groups and the reviews were excellent. I actually visited twice, the first time they were closed even though their hours said that they should be open. I wanted to try the food so much that I tried again the next day and they happened to be open. The customer service was bad from the moment that I walked in. There was no welcoming greeting instead I got confused looks as if I was in the wrong place and had disturbed them. I politely told them I was here for dinner. I then was seated and tossed menus and the server quickly rambled off some things about the menu while walking away. The server acted like he barely had time to answer questions about the menu. Later we found that the prices on the menu were not correct. We were charged different prices on our bill and the server did not adjust them. The food was ok, not as good as the reviews made it out to be. Overall, I left very disappointed because I was really looking forward to eating and enjoying the food. With a limited number of days, you only have so many opportunities to try the many restaurants on the island. I felt disappointed I wasted one of...

Came here for dinner on a rainy, damp Christmas night. We were happy to see them open and also wanted to have a memorable last meal in Belize. I had Tapou-Falumo and spouse had fish and chips. Food was very good if not a little expensive. Overcharged us for two drinks (we had one) and for fish fillet when Inhad the fish steak. Pay attention. Things take awhile here, so don’t expect to dine and dash. Sit back and relax if you can. The guys drumming from Punta Gorda were entertaining, but too loud for all of us White folks in the restaurant who weren’t following their lead. I’m all for learning about and appreciating the Garifuna culture, but at over 100 decibels it was too loud to enjoy and get in the spirit. They did offer lessons to anyone who wanted to learn. I did enjoy the food and the stew was perfect for a chilly, damp evening.

Heard much about this restaurant and for obvious reasons decided to put it on our list of choice restaurants. Though we came on a night where there was no entertainment, we enjoyed the food. I had the Hudut filet fish, and we also ordered the steak fish because they did not have any oxtails or whole snapper this night. The drinks probably were the best on the entire Island.  The soup was delicious with a good size fish. Though the white rice and plantains were a bit cold I made no fuss and simply dunked it in my soup. Nice portion of food. We then ordered a Baileys Pie. Tasted somewhat like key lime pie with a hint of Baileys. But for a small Island it was acceptable. Friendly Staff and nice music on repeat 😊 We did not get to explore the history of the Garifuna people but enjoyed the atmosphere nonetheless

One thing that continuously amazes me about Belize, is the beautiful cultural melting pot of ethnicities that it represents. Our visit to Black and White Garifuna Resturant was a beautiful culinary sneak peek into the Garifuna culture - AND WOW was the food amazing! There’s no doubt why this resturant has such high reviews. The food is so incredibly delicious, and represents the cultural kaleidoscope of the Garifuna people. With food reminiscent of West African cuisine, blended with Amerindian and eastern Caribbean island fusion… My friends and I barely uttered a word as we devoured the amazing food that we had!! The Hudut was hands down the absolute highlight of my dining experience, but I would also recommend trying the Garifuna seafood ceviche which was everything and more!! Cannot wait to go back!!
